Majority of labels releasing 140 on vinyl still are.

There's certainly more new labels at the ~130 mark than at 140.

More generally: "EDM" in the ballpark of 133 - :2: NO WAY!
alphacat in 2012 wrote:The whole idea of 133 being the "perfect" BPM has a history - where've I heard it? Larry Levan? 'Modulations' documentary? -q-

It's an academic point at best though. Besides the excellent examples of "what about fat outta shape people tho?" - what about kids? You ever seen anybody successfully dance on time to gabber except a little kid? What about really old people? They're fucking happy to get a groove on at like 33 bpm, let alone 133. Ism schism. Fixed, explicit BPMs are a handy reference for DJ's, not anything to attempt to build a genre out of. I can probably find polka, metal, and classical that's 133 BPM. A groovy song does not cease being groovy when you pitch it up or down +/-5... it's all about the context of the mix to a large degree.

Also, if I recall right in the first place (as to the historical origin of 133 as perfect) it also had to do with the rise of cocaine use in disco dancers. Might be wrong on that one tho.

aint 133 the bpm of a locked groove at 33rpm? maybe thats the reason

This is simply due to the fact that House music is rapidly growing in popularity, even more so than dubstep.

House has always been popular though, 128 doesnt just mean house though ahah, its the fact that at the moment a lot of stuff is being made that is heavily influenced by dubstep, and in some stores dubstep falls in the same area as this bass music stuff, funky, grime etc and alot of it now its slower tempos.

If this saddens you though its not really gonna help, if everyone has moved to slower tempos then you making a post isnt gonna make them rethink their lives and start making 140. 140 is just a tempo anyway.
