Most I've spent is £30, generally stay around the 10-15 mark though. I always check for free packs before buying too as I'm normally skint

Nothing, Ive never spent money on samples and I cant imagine a time when I would. There's enough good quality free samples around if you search I reckon.

For more detailed sound packs I don't mind putting 20+ into it. I think the most I've spent is around 42 dollars and it was for like 8 gbs of really cool FX and textures that I use quite often. They work great for layering in with pads and stuff. If it's for just like a bunch of one hit drum and other percussion samples I tend to stick to the 10-20 dollar range.
Now here's the thing with those free samples that are circling the internet. Sure there's a lot of great free samples out there but there's a reason they are free. For instance if I want some guitar samples the majority of the free ones I find are just horrendous. Most of them are terrible quality recordings with unnecessary compression and eqing that makes the majority of them sound even worse.
That is of course for the actual free samples. Anyone who's considering torrents of top brand sample packs that you have to originally buy to be free, you don't deserve an opinion on this.

I have never purchased anything, always use freeware samples, normally just drum hits atmosphere fx, i don't use loops or anything like that so need to pay for em.

Most of my packs are freebies (not torrents) that I find either here, free sound, or bpb

Legal or illegal free downloads, otherwise I record em myself.

Same. I have endless supply of free packs plus the best samples come from sample digging anyway.

samples are free and need not be torrented or pirated, i guess a torrent is handy if there are huge colections out there but if you mean pirating, i wouldn't bother with that either. Theres a ton of good free material. imo people who buy drum hits, stabs, loops, atmospherics and pads are grade A suckers

Good lord I used to waste money on shitty sample packs. I refuse to delete them and leave them in my DAW's browser to remind me. There are a couple $60ish packs I thought were worth it
Gold Baby Tape 808
Gold Baby Vinyl Drum Hits
Percussionism dunno who made it, on loopmasters nice ethnic drum pack that sorted my searching woahs.
Other than that yea...I record stuff and use free stuff now. I haven't spent a penny on samples in ages (unless you count vinyls)

When I first started out I picked up a couple sample packs for $15 each. Then I realized that you could download free samples from Primeloops (until they changed there site), and that got me a couple gigs worth. Now it's mostly CM samples and other freebies.
I did breakdown and buy a Mashine expansion though.

i got a "voucher" in an email from NI for a maschine expansion, it looked like a great deal but obviously only meant i'd pay $25 instead of $40 for a pack that was total garbage in the first place.
So i guess I'm a sucker too, cuz i fell for it. But it's bullshit you cant demo the sounds first imo
Fragments, i got the goldbaby tape 808 and 909 free from a legit sourcei can't remember where but they must've been released free at some point. It was some blog or store like bpb (which also has plenty of other awesome free sample packs)

The Gold Baby guy (forget his name) has a free Tape 808/909 pack on the site I think. I think the biggest difference is you don't get all the different flavors processed with different outboard gear. And not near as many kicks in general.
But yea, the free pack would have sorted me.
I picked up Maschine MKI...personally I'm not super impressed with the sample library, I haven't been through it extensively, but I'd still only rate it as OK. Usable stuff, but didn't fall in love like the my three favorite packs and recording/synthesizing my own or recording from vinyl. NI is great a marketing. I've been wanting Maschine forever and dunno why was stoked about the sample library. It's like NI can make the most mundane points about their products seem awesome, lol.

I've never bought a sample pack, but I would be happy to buy one for up to say £30, maybe £40 if it was real good and worth the money, but I haven't seen any I would be happy to spend that on yet - possibly due to not getting a full look at them? I've seen a few I'd spend less on though.
I can't fault anyone for using torrent though as I see the argument there.

I said 10-20$. I picked up Emperor and Centras first sample pack and it was the best purchase I've ever made at at 13$. I can browse loopmasters and see packs that I know will be shit for $40+ and it blows my mind. Lately I've been working almost exclusively with samples (with some obvious exceptions) so if I'm not making my own, having quality sample packs is a must. Not all of what I'm looking for I can find for free either. However $40 for potential garbage is just going to make me try and pirate it if I think there could be something of some use in there

I'm typically not impressed with the demo sounds of anything. Unfortunately it really takes using the samples/synth/FX etc...and doing your thing with it to find out what you are really going to get out of it. ...but I've never seen a sample pack with license transfer

I guess maybe some of the NI Kontakt type stuff...

I dont really think I could ever justify paying for samples. Im sorry but there are so many great free sound resources out there that someone charging me for sounds is inexcusable in my book. Of course, if theres a paid pack that I want I wouldn't torrent it, I would just make do with what I have.

I don't really buy sample packs,if i really struggle to find sample sources then will look at packs.I have bought a few with the most recent being a dub horns pack.
Most i've spent on 1 was £55 on the soundbwoy sample cd a few years ago.
Most of my sample folders are full of shit i've been given by friends, downloaded off the net or sampled myself from various sources.
