New videos series from Red Bull Music Academy.
Red Bull Music Academy continues with its H∆SHTAG$ web series today, dropping a video which finds beatmakers like Flying Lotus, Shlohmo, TNGHT, and The Gaslamp Killer talking about their craft and the "beat scene" at large. What's more: XLR8R editor Shawn Reynaldo makes an appearance in the clip, and dishes out knowledge on the way the LA-centric sound has evolved over the years. Benji B, Dorian Concept, and FLyLo collaborator Thundercat also appear, talking about the rise and near ubiquity of instrumental hip-hop. This piece follows previous episodes which focused on the genres of "post-dubstep" and "alt-R&B."

Where the fuck is the Long Island dubstep culture? I've been out to Brooklyn for more underground stuff, but its nothing like what there describing here. I need to find people with the same interests!!!
*Edit.
Going through some of these red bull videos, like the origins of dubstep series is really inspiring.
It's videos like these that reinvigorate my dedication. When I get side tracked while working on a tune, and think about turning on the TV, its things like this that will keep me going til 2am.

If the music itself isn't getting you going until 2am, fuckit, turn the tv on (or whatever better purpose there is for your time).

Its more like I loose the groove, like ill have ideas flowing for a good two hours but then ill have to stop for a minute and it makes it hard to get back in rhythm.
For me, if i listen to the tune over again maybe once or twice ill come up with ideas. But its here where my mind wanders a bit, and if i dont get back in i usually call it a night.
I've been watching TV more lately due to boredom at the office. It's making me start to realize that TV makes you content with doing nothing.
Some people say the same for weed, but those people wanted to do nothing from the start
I feel like i should spend this time trying to better myself at something.

Thats true, i'm just not looking in the right place. Wish there was a forum board for more localized gatherings/events between the production community. If there is and you guys know of one id love to hear it.
The Events board isn't doing it for me.

Its not like you just walk around and find a spot though.
Things like outlaw/underground raves aren't published well.
Yeah I can go see UKF play at Terminal 5 or zeds dead at best buy theater but that's not what i'm looking for. I can try to pass around my stuff there but my real goal was to start meeting the DJ's/producers that play at these lesser known venues, and go from there.
When i was 16 I new the some people that were really into the scene but since then I haven't chilled with people that are about that scene.
I'm just going to start lurking around face book to find events and head out by myself.

So much intimate study can be done in the quiet hours of the early morning! Though I have found myself doing push-ups @4am on many occasions.

Not every night, I do have a 9-5
Sometimes i'll find myself getting distracted. Personally i feel the best work I do is when I start a new project, then get into this zone where I have one idea after another and soon the track snowballs into something fantastic; Then all I do is tidy up work the next few days/weeks and start adding some more intricate effects, melodies, atmospheres, ect.
For me the best songs I think I have now; had the bulk of there work done in the first session.
Idk man, those videos gave me this weird feeling inside. Kinda like anxiety mixed with this feeling of power. It's weird.

That last line is very interesting. Think about that. What causes it? What does it mean? Who benefits? Is it a good thing? Very interesting.
