Hot Cakes and Supatronix return to London's gloriously underground Brixton Jamm for the latest in a series of parties showcasing the boomingest breakbeat-oriented bass music. Throwing ruffhouse flavours into the mix from the upfront edges of breakbeat, dark garage, grime, jungle and drum 'n' bass, their eclectic lineups (carefully compiled and fronted by Hot Cakes head honcho Deekline) have seen the venue completely sold out on the last few occasions they've graced us with their presence.
As usual, Supatronix take over the main room, this time celebrating a full decade in the game. The club night started out in a basement bar in Shoreditch in April 2003 and has played host to some of the biggest names in the business over the years, from Stanton Warriors, to Krafty Kuts, Hybrid and more. To celebrate their 10th birthday, they're putting on a lineup of DJs to get everyone seriously hectic in the dancehall.
First up, perennial Ruffnecks The Freestylers will be showcasing sounds from their forthcoming new album The Coming Storm. Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey always bring the fiercest of drops to make the whole place shake, and we're expecting big things once again.
Co-headlining will be bass maniac High Rankin, who's flying in especially from Berlin to put the royal willies up anyone who has never seen him perform before. The demon dandy king of dubstep will be devastating the dancefloor once again, like young Damien off The Omen if he'd survived into his teens and worked out that rinsing beats and gutbusting basslines are a lot more fun than impaling vicars with a spike through the brain.
Hosting the event on behalf of Hot Cakes is the mighty Deekline, fresh from the enormous success of February's launch party for his new album with Ed Solo, Bounce N Shake. Watch this legendary figure make the whole club wriggle and wind once again to his eclectic bass-fuelled selection.
RackNRuin is a name Supatronix has been pushing since day one and the producer behind the classic Soundclash anthem featuring face of the moment Jessie Ware. This young London producer rips up the genre rulebook, throwing jungle, garage, house and dubstep into the mixer and emerging with riddims that can't fail to get 'em moving. Now one half of Gorgon City on the very special Black Butter label, his set promises to be unmissable.
Support in room one comes from Supatronix residents Jurassik and Se7en Deadly Breaks, along with Miss Monument.
Habitual DJs once again host room two, where
breakbeat legend Rennie Pilgrem will be headlining, alongside fast-rising bass queen Tigerlight, who will be performing a debut UK DJ set accompanied by her own vocals. Definitely worth checking out. Support comes from Sai, Force of Habit, Mini Da Minx and Force of Habit.
