CDJ 800mk2 durability & lifespan

Hey guys, I was going to sell my CDJ 800mk2s because I never used them, but I'm actually getting more into deep dub 3 channel mixes using CDJs. That third channel is really crucial for this type of mixing i've learned.

I currently only have 2 x CDJ800mk2, and I'm wondering if I should get a third. I don't have much of a budget, so that's the only CDJ that really falls remotely around that price.

If I'm trying to do a 3 deck CDJ mix, would you guys recommend buying a third 800mk2 to make that happen?

I know they are old, so I don't want to buy another one just to have them all crap out... It does seem that every little piece of them is replaceable, but some of those parts can be pricey.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if they are working now, i don't see why they would stop working anytime soon, unless you are moving them around a lot to and from gigs and stuff. i just sold a pair of cdj800 mk1s that were at least 10 years old and still working fine. since you already have a pair, you should know what to look for and how things should work.

I'm a complete novice at Djing, could you link me a 3 deck mix or tell me what is done differently? I'm imagining double drops and acapellas being dropped over tunes

you mix with 3 decks instead of two, same principle though.

useful for teases and quick mixing

Well pretty much any Youngsta set is 3 decks, so I'm talking more on the minimal dub style of mixing.

The main reason is that I find myself with two tracks mixed together that sound great, so I want to start beatmatching the next song in, but I can't because I don't have a 3rd channel/deck.

With the minimal dub style, it's easier to get multiple songs playing at the same time while still sounding good because most of them aren't very chaotic or busy.

With other types of music, I wouldn't really think 3 channels is quite as necessary.

dubstep not dub

and as for the other types of music, i think it's pretty common in dnb and house scene

yes dubstep not dub; I just call it dub most of the time around here since dubstep means something totally different to most people. I should say UK Bass, which still doesn't mean shit to most people. Dub categorizes it best for people who don't know the many sub genres of dubstep.

Makes sense it's common in DnB and house.

a) dubstep has no subgenres, at least i don't consider any of the flavors of the sound being referred to with different words as a subgenre
b) dub is dub reggae
