is anyone here taking part in the Dissensus tape swap? I caught the link from Gutterbreakz and had to join in. Have always loved tapes and we did a few tape swaps through my old site dot-alt.
I sent out my tape today to a mystery address in the States.
Was just wondering if any others here got involved?

sounds like too much hard work! I always hated tapes, hissy, slow, bulky. CD's are even worse though. Nothing beats a lovely, unadulterated chunk of data

I still got love for the CR90 but rarely listen to them these days. Tape swap sounds like a cool idea though...

yeah when the dissensus one is over is anyone interested in doing a forum-wide tape swap based here? Seeing as we know we all like dubstep, it would be interesting to see what variety we can get between us

Saw that thing on dissensus, and was tempted.
Tis a cool idea. I made a tape for a mate the other day and found it really fun!
yay.
Why not do one here if people are interested?
Could link in nicely with the extensive "Music For Dubsteppers" and "How Did You Get Here" threads that have been up.

Although if you expect me to send a tape to Australia or some shit you can piss right off!
Jokes!

why not pool a load of tracks using yousendit- then someone can do an almighty big download at the end.
Stipulate a maximum bitrate, say, 20kb/s to get that real "tape" sound

i dunno it's then somehow too easy / too streamlined. For me the appeal of a tape swap is that its on physical media that physically travels some distance, you know what i mean? I like that its a bit awkward and a bit removed from the at-your-fingertips information world.
still your suggestion is something that should also be tried out - the two aren't mutually exclusive!

Yeah, it would be cool to actually receive the physical entity. MP3s seem too disposable somehow.
Also, tapes are shit quality in a whole different way from low quality mp3!
Besides, I don't really have any problem sending stuff round the world. Seems quite fun really. Kind of like a holiday. But with out the good bits. Hmm.
We could easily pool things to download at some later point, so that anyone interested can listen to the tapes.

TDK SA90 chrome was my tape of choice way back when. Loved em! Still play some and they sound really nice for a tape - not too hissy - and they had some nice tape saturation when you pushed em into the red a bit.
I pick them up occasionally from Richer Sounds - good price.

old skool tape loading. Imagine if you had to load Windows using a tape (or 10) every time you turned your comp on.
