Sound Design VST's

Hey guys !
I'm looking for some sound design VST''s that let you manipulate sound like for some scary soundtrack or trailer.
Something maybe like Mach5.
Also any VST''s with brutal synths like they use in todays trailers would be awesome, like distorted synths and Bass sweep sounds.

Dude, you can practice sound design in any synth that you own. That's pretty much what vst synthesizers are made for...

probably 60% of what you hear in music for film these days comes from omnisphere.

all VSTs can design or aid in designing sound. learn each tool and learn a few good synths.

Really??
@OP: Check out Reaktor for unlimited sound design possibilities.
Also any wavetable synth should have plenty of modulation options. NI Massive, Vember Audio Surge and FAW Circle are good places to start.
For further powerful synth options, anything listed in this thread will last you a life time. --->

Just remember that using envelopes to modulate the parameters on your synth or sampler is often what creates interest in a sound, so modulate and automate everything (so long as it sounds good).
If programming synths hasn't become second nature to you, there's no shame in using synth presets either if they sounds the way you want. A synth like Camel Audio Alchemy or (as mentioned above) Spectrasonics Omnisphere will go a long way as they are highly manipulatable and come with loads of preset content covering many genres.
Additionally, some people slice together samples of different recorded sounds, like the roar of a lion crossed with the sound of a motorbike revving up etc.
Many people just use sample packs. Google for sample packs with keywords like 'sweeps' 'drops' 'sfx' and 'risers' etc.
Hope that helps?
Patrick

Absynth, hands down. Kontakt if you plan on manipulating samples. Both are daunting at first, but if you're looking to get into complex sound design you better get used to it.

Absynth is pretty huge. Also I recommend u get urself a big palette of different (freeware) audio effects like filters, clippers, reverbs, delays, shapers, phasers, distortion, crushers etc. and so forth. Such little tools are often quite simple and much less intimidating, but used wisely in combination no less powerful than ur freakiest ubersynth.

Another one-up for Absynth from me. Great stock sounds along with endless sound design possibilities. Only drawbacks ive experienced are the steep learning curve and minor envelope problems.
