I have an LFO / frequency thing going on on my sampler, made this nice stabby Netsky-like sound. I wanna use the compressor to make it more punchy, stabby, but is each stab being compressed individually or is like the sound being compressed as whole. Please know what i'm talkin about

Depends on how long your envelope settings for the compressor are. A fast attack and fast release will compress each stab individually, but a slower release will keep the compressor active for a longer time..

Use your ears m8. If you can't, don't bother with a compressor and get a transient shaper instead cuz they's easier to work with.

a lot of it depends on your attack/release settings. you need a somewhat fast attack and a release which will match the length of your sound properly.

it's not easy to explain in words, better watch this and then practice:



things like compression are best understood with constant practice.

Good posts above. Check out ThrillseekerLA. Very easy compressor to learn with. Can also get the sound you want. Is also an amazing compressor. And free.

ThrillseekerLA is an incredible vst, I'll vouch for that. It isn't the most typical compressor, though, to program. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to someone trying to learn how most compressors work. That said, it is easy to use, just not imo representative of your average compressor.

The one built into your DAW should be fairly typical.
