So for Tom Rolls, I cut 3-6 exact samples, of whatever tom I am using, and pitch each one down a few semitones?... This is what I do, when I do juggles, so I presume, it's the same concept :/ I have been trying to wrap my head around this, for a few days now, looked at a few tutorials, and a few threads, but what I don't understand, is the programming, and how they are spaced... If someone can shine some light on this, that would be awesome... Perhaps sleep is blocking my thought process,
the roll in that example sounds like a pretty straight forward 16th note roll. all the hits are right after each other on the 1/16 grid.
something like this:
midtom, midtom, lowtom, lowtom, midtom, midtom, lowtom, lowtom, midtom, midtom, lowtom, lowtom, floortom, floortom, snare, snare, kick+crash
also sounded like he brought the volume up while it was playing.

I was actually experimenting in the meantime... I tried 4 toms, all hitting twice... semitone 0, -3, -5 , and -7... It's all the same tom, but I could try doing mid, low, and floor...

w0rd...anything could work really. you could hit 4 different ones from highest to lowest one time each...instead of two, twice... or whatever
it's kinda hard for me to explain any proper way to do rolls cuz they're a very customizable thing ... you just kind of imagine what ever you wanna hear and make it happen

Tap em out live. With velocity differences obviously.

1up for posting that video ^^^
It's a good vid. Writing in fills is such a hard thing to do. I'll spend an hour trying to write a decent groove or fill and it'll sound shit and I'll wanna kill myself. Then I'll sit down the next day in front of my Maschine Mikro and I'll writing something I love in 5 minutes.
Basically, I think you have to 'feel da groove' and you'll know where to place the beats just through experience of making and listening to music.
I like the idea of pitching drums instead of trawling through shit sample packs to find hi, mid, low and floor toms that work together!

I use BFD2 for the tom fills. Use the acoustic toms that come with the software, find a decent pattern from the grooves list, then export the tom fills as audio, then combine it with my regular drums. Like a glove!

edit: 16th notes, just tapped it out, not hard to figure out w/in a daw, much easier than actually playing it
