Was wondering what you guys get for an average RMS, when mastering... I have heard so many different stories... No more than -6, no more than -10... Just curious...

eh it's the MEs problem, as long things are sounding good (not squashed nor distorted), I don't care.

When I'm making a track at least, I turn the master down to -6dB then make up the gain by +6dB on monitors so I can naturally mix without having to worry about headroom

Never looked, probably never will. Does RMS stand for Root Mean Square in the audio world? If so I think I understand what it represents, if not I have no clue. Off to google I go

It doesn't matter as long as it isnt clipping and youve left a bit of headroom for the M.E. :)

I usually have my master around -6 to -4... I live by the fact that, if it doesn't clip, it's good...

Holy cow, -4db RMS? That is ridiculously loud. You know that RMS isn't the same thing as peak db, right?

It depends I guess.... Go tell Zomboy his RMS is to high, and he will slap you with a tator tot... But then again -2 RMS and Clipping is what commercialized music is all about...
