What's my best bet for a ~1000$ sound system?

I've got about 1000$ I want spend on a sound system. I'd like it to be somewhat mobile, and bass heavy. (For parties/DJing/or at home)

I was looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/JBL-JRX125-500-wa ... B0002GJTO0

But was told I'd be losing a lot of bass by buying those rather than a "sub +sat" (not even 100% sure what that all includes). And that they are a bitch to transport.

Suggestions? Figured you guys would be able to help me out.

Thanks:)

go into your local guitar/music/pa hire store & have a listen to some of their speakers to get an idea of what you're buying before hand.

and at least there you can see whether anything is on sale too, if not, then jump back onto the internet.

We've got one and it's pretty crumby, I doubt they'd even let me try them out without a fee or something. No guitar center near either. I figure the best deals are online anyways.

Explain that you are interested in purchasing a PA system and would like to see what they have available and try a couple out that they think would be best for your application. If you do like what they have then ask if they price match to online prices (I used to work in a music shop and we always did, would rather take a hit on profit than lose a sale) If they don't and you would prefer to spend less online then bid them good day. Simple as.

Bring with you a couple of different tracks so you get a wide selection of sounds to put through it if you can demo.

the only two systems i've ever had enough experience with to comment on are:

b52 sub which blew the first night we used it (we weren't abusing it, but it was used)

behringer eurolives and the b1800d sub
they're powered, the eurolives I think are 215s maybe. sound great, can take a beating.
the b1800 is a powerhouse. it will thump hard. should total right under 1k at guitar center and that's all you need besides some xlr cables.

edit: saw that you don't have a guitar center near you, so ignore that. and these come out to be more than a grand and they're probably overkill for home use.
if you're going to be taking them out a lot i'd suggest them because again they'll rock a party, but if not something a little more compact with no need for stands would be ideal.

Your best bet is to google systems that are available for hire in your general area, look at the specs of the systems and then have nose around ebay and places like that to get a feel for prices, try and find the events they're being used at so u can hear (and see) how suitable they'd be for your own uses.
