UK Students?

in the first year of uni...

u have to pay 3 lots of rent for halls throughout the year, the last instalment in the middle of May, which uses up all your maintenance loan till the next one in september

then obviously u have to get a house sorted for second year

but then all the house contracts start from around the first of july, so u have to pay till september (around £1000-1500) with no student loan covering u????

what the fuck did u/are u gonna do?

obviously there's the 'get a fucking job' response (which im trying to do), but surely thousands of students are in this predicament yearly and don't all find work :|

how did u guys cover it?

ffs long. was hoping to pissed owith my student loan and now by the looks of it every last penny has to go on fuckin houses and rent

Haha no I meant in terms of living until September, go home until then. 1st installment has to pay rent + living until next one.. same with 2nd, last one is usually cheaper rent anyway and the rest is just money to fuck around with if you move home for summer.

Fuck student houses they proper mug you off making you move in a month before uni starts. I stayed in halls again 2nd year and 3rd year got a 12 month contract in an apartment, this will be the first summer I don't go home all summer. Although I'll need to go back quite a bit for work to pay off this rasclart overdraft.

A lot of my mates last year went into a student house and ended up back in halls this year.

The student loan system is based on the assumption your parents will be helping you out

Mate of mine got money from a guy who died like 100 years ago, hes from a small village and the guy was mega-rich and left it all to students cause he had no family.. so all students who live in a certain radius get like £1,000 a year.

What you studying?

Economics, its pretty dull. Audio technology sounds cool, I wish I'd done something more along those lines now.. only thing I've really learnt is that I don't want a job in economics lol.

At least you're in a good city, that was the main thing for me. Uni was more getting away and experiencing somewhere else, glad I chose Manchester. Was here or Bristol. Thats why I've ended up not completely enjoying the course cause I chose it more cause I was good at it rather than interest, think a lot of people do that.

Most student houses do reduced rent over summer don't they, or is it completely different here? I set mine up so that it's the same payment plan as halls as well pretty much, money get's taken out 3 times just after loan comes in, makes it easier than fucking about having to find a spare hundred quid the week before rents due
