Submotion Orchestra

Post by SunkLo » Wed May 08, 2013 6:11 pm

Anyone diggin these guys? Dunno if they're popular or not since I'm such I hipster.

I heard their first album about a month ago and have been digging it. Fits in rotation well with the new Bonobo album.
At first I thought it was too vocal centric, I would have preferred the vocals been pulled down a bit to mesh with the rest of the band. But she has a really awesome voice and I like where it's at after repeated listens. Starting to dig into their second album now.

It's amazing how this formula for success has eluded so many. Live instruments, sub bass, hot girl vocalist. Cannot go wrong.

Fulfills my craving for subs without boring me with the usual dubstep, since I also like good songwriting and nuanced instruments. I'm always going for that organic vibe in my own productions so that appeals to me. Bonobo usually gets the balance right between synths and instruments. I think the apex is combining the arrangements of classical, with the groove and harmonic language of jazz, and the gloss and power of electronic. These guys do a good job at being dynamic and jazzy and having that extra oomph.

Anyways yeah, check it if you're late. :4:

Yeah, i'm a big fan. I saw them play last October and they were brilliant. They are all about the bass live, it's really gut wrenching and powerful. Ruby is a great front woman and has amazing vocal control, we had a chat with her afterwards and i was asking her about certain songs and who does what in the band. She told me Ruckspin is the producer and does most of the programming and her and others chip in with songwriting/arranging. I've got a feeling they will be massive in a year or 2. If anyone gets the chance, go and see them, you wont regret it.

This is honestly one of the best tunes ever:

Saw them live at Outlook and it was phenomenal. Spent the entire time eyes closed, hand on heart, in another world.
My name is Dom and I like making ambientish music and drinking tea. Nice to meet you.
