Kandicaine Ft. BabyGee - The hurt

Post by Kandicaine » Thu May 09, 2013 8:27 pm

Hey guys. Not sure if this is the correct forum, hope it is!

So, I've been producing electronic music for about 4 months now on and off. Recently I heard about a contest a local radio station is holding so I decided to submit an entry. The deadline for entry (and voting) is the 10th May. I only heard about this contest on the 4th of May.

The prize is a $1000 scholarship to the Okanagan Institute of Arts and Technology - Electronic Music Program.

With everything I'd learned and more I decided to produce a track, my best yet. I don't have a ton of experience under my belt when it comes to making electronic music but I did play the guitar fairly extensively for a few years.

I made this track after about 6 days of staying up around the clock. It's my best yet.

Feedback would be appreciated, voting would be fantastic.

Right now, I think my music sounds about as good as Dubstep 3 years ago did, after only a few months of practicing. Once upon a time Ginger Pubes by Cookie Monster was considered some of the coolest shit ever. I think my shit sounds better than that.

Thanks for the time.

P.S Feel free to vote for someone else if you so choose to!

Yo man. From my perspective you've got the right ideas but you might want to try to hunt down some better synths and plugins. You're talented, though and you're doing well for four months in. Good luck with the scholarship.

I've been having a real hard time making good synths. Wobble and Bass has been pretty easy, I just need to make the riffs more complex.
WIth the tutorials I've been watching and the reading I've been doing, its really hard to figure out what I need when I don't even know what a sound is called. Just the other day I learned what a "House style stab" was, even though I've heard it thousands of times before lol.

Thanks by the way :)

EDIT: This song is also the first time I've played around a lot with enveloping by creating Automaton events.

For the rhythm in the intro and outro I just used 3OscX to make a stab and put fruity blood overdrive and free filter on it to slowly bring in the distortion and cut it after the build up.

I really want to start doing some funky things with vocals like Bassnectar does. I've tried using Slicex but I usually end up with better things just by slicing and splicing myself, still can't get those "glitchy" sounding vocals. I thought of maybe using grossbeat but I can't really figure out how to use it or get it to only play on certain parts of the patch. More automaton events I'd guess.
