Do any of you make tutorial videos? if so, how?
I've been interested in doing this but i have had little luck finding a free software which captures screen video, audio, and recorded audio through mic. Can anyone help me?

Techsmith Camtasia makes life easy.eyeatus wrote:i use and suggest screenflow for mac. for pc, i heard camtasia is the way to go.
Also Google 'freeware screen recorders' to see what comes up.
Good luck

I downloaded the Camtasia 30 day demo last week to try make a tutorial. In the end i unistalled it because i got frustrated with trying to record the asio output of my DAW. I managed to record the screen, microphone from my interface, and the windows system sounds just not sound in Cubase. For some reason most screen capture software are not compatible with recording asio drivers. If you have a mac it might be easier to record the sound, someone said they used a program called 'Sound Flower'. You will have to experiment around a bit OP.futures_untold wrote:Techsmith Camtasia makes life easy.

I make tutorials on Youtube, it's called ARTFX Tutorial Tuesday. I use Camtasia for the recording, and record the output of Ableton 9 into another audio program. You need to route the signal either digitally or with actual cables from an output on your soundcard to an input. That way you can record the audio of an ASIO program. You could also use a separate recording device like an portable recorder and run a cable from an output to that device.

i heard somebody say quicktime will capture the screen on mac; although screenflow is great.
Camtasia is cool.
...and I think a free program is camstudio

Camstudio is good considering it's free.tpc_uk wrote:A free program is camstudio
With regards to capturing the output of the soundcard, there are apps which allow routing any audio source on a computer (both Mac and PC) to the location you wish. Soundlfower and LineIn are available on the Mac.
JACK is available on all platforms including iOS.
Others exist for Windows, but I'm feeling lazy so you'll have to find them yourself in these Google results.....

For that I use the software that came with my E-MU Soundcard, called E-MU Patchmix.FAARE FACED wrote:Could you please exand on the digial routing of the output of your DAW to something else ?ARTFX wrote:I make tutorials on Youtube, it's called ARTFX Tutorial Tuesday. i just made a tutorial on a reese bass and frequency splitting but does anyone know how to export with screenflow without killing my macbook? it put my cpu to 92% and my cpu heated up to 200F so i cancelled it. i dont like running my cpu that hott. is there anyway to save it another, less demanding way? i have a quad core i7 MBP.

Instead of all this virtual cable routing shit, why don't you all just use an external mixer? Seems the easiest way!

That's how I do it most of the time, running a simple mixer and using a Tascam recorder to record the output. But with the virtual routing it's also possible.£10 Bag wrote:Instead of all this virtual cable routing shit, why don't you all just use an external mixer? Seems the easiest way!

If it's too hot, it will shut down by itself.Eat Bass wrote:i just made a tutorial on a reese bass and frequency splitting but does anyone know how to export with screenflow without killing my macbook? it put my cpu to 92% and my cpu heated up to 200F so i cancelled it. i dont like running my cpu that hott. is there anyway to save it another, less demanding way? i have a quad core i7 MBP.
What you could do is try not to render in a very high resolution (720p is enough to see the smallest text on a video). I also suggest a render in mp4.
And guys, if you want to go a step further, you can even export audio and video in separate ways and then use a program like virtual dub to export to .mkv which is the the format best quality/size ratio ever possible afaik.
You can find some tutorials on the web about this.
