Hey, I've heard multiple things about this and would just like some clarification. Would I need to buy an interface soundcard to be able to connect them? At the minute I'm using some good headphones but I have some monitors so it seems a shame not to hook them up.

Yeah you just need a audio interface, and either xlr cables or what ever the monitors take.

No, you don't need an audio interface. I'm sure they make headphone to L/R quarter inch or XLR cables, if not I'm sure you could rig some plug adapters to make it happen...male headphone to male L/R RCA connect to Female L/R RCA to L/R quarter inch cable. This isn't preferable, but you could make it work.

An audio interface will let you take better advantage of the monitors, however.

My laptop's onboard soundchip can't do shit, If I use more than like 4 tracks it lags like crazy and the quality goes to hell.

If I didn't have my interface, I wouldn't be able to make music on my laptop.

The onboard soundchip on my desktop computer, however, works fine.

So idk whats up with that, both are about the same model.
