Do you buy records for pleasure or to DJ with?

I wonder how many people on here buy records for listening purposes and how many buy records to DJ with?
Do you DJ for fun or are you trying to get somewhere, take bookings and play on radio?

Both. I buy em mostly for pleasure, BUT it's a pleasure to DJ. Y'know?
I used to work a lot harder to get gigs, but now am content to just DJ whenever the opportunity presents itself. Listening to music for pleasure will never end though.

I dont listen to singles, i play mixes or CDs from my PC for that.

most vinyl i buy is dubstep regga and dub.
but buy all sorts on cd from korn to common to ian brown

dubstep(and lots of other stuff) for fun
reggae and hiphop for shows
i would take a booking for anything i like even if i haven't played it out before as long as i think i could do a good job, sometimes i buy records because i think they'd be good to dj with even though i probably won't get the chance

Both really. Although I use Serato, so when I buy vinyl I just rip it to mp3 and then I have a pretty much untouched dubstep collection gathering dust and value!
Having said that I only buy vinyl when there is no sign of a digital release...

Thats a good idea, I've been ripping the vinyls to Wav for Serato but still use records a lot, so theres tons of wear and tear, but it's all fun end of the day and I doubt I'd ever want to sell my records. I always try to get artwork releases instead now just because I like the collection and kinda wish I had doubles of records which I have played a lot and are suffering!

primarily because I like records, and like listening to them...
where available I'll buy everything on vinyl regardless of genre. although I do mix, obviously, I don't DJ anywhere near every genre I buy.

Been spinning digital lately but I still like to own the vinyl. For ripping and just to have it because I enjoy vinyl. I'm sitting on the fence here. I will tell you I still have yet to purchase an mp3. My tunes either come from the producer or from vinyl. Thats about to change tho. Lookin' to pick up that Sully EP.

I do that too man, cool for mixes and radio but I wouldn't want to use a rip on a big system though.
Even if already got the vinyl and its gets a digital release I will buy that as well!

i own 658 drum n bass records which i use for djing... but recently i have put that on hold because im trying to pursue dubstep..as it is new to me and no one plays it here yet...it is my plan to push the dubstep sound here for a while...then i may start spinning dnb again along with dub...but im not sure yet...im addicted to dubstep

I counted my records once when i was bored skullless, but even then i gave up half way through.
Anyone else got over 100 records in a pile, nicknamed "Why the fuck?" ?

haha.. yeah last time i move i counted them...and then kept a record of it.......in my collection i have 87 white labels...so its mind boggling sometimes (dammit..i should label them myself... but then there not white lable anymore

Must have about 400 drum and bass records. About 250 are unplayably shite. That's the nature of dnb.
Don't buy dnb anymore.
In terms of dubstep, I buy for pleasure now 'cos my decks aren't at home. I have a stack of new stuff still unopened.
And I've started to buy random tunes on viny too rather than just CD. Old stuff, different stuff, just stuff I like.

i've always bought them because i like vinyl and djing on my own, never really gotten many gigs.
although fortunately i've just gotten a weekly gig, but it's not really going to change what i buy/why i buy records.
it just means im gonna be able to buy more records. w00t!

Sounds good, I thought there would be more people who just listen to the music than mix it and try to get bookings etc! Nice to see so many people on it.
