Great movie, a bit long but the kids just keep it interesting. Cooper totally surprised me, never knew he could hold up such a serious act.
Gosling is starting to prove Drive was not a one a one hit wonder, slight changes in character here but still the "not-talkative-but-really-angry" role though so i'm quite confused, I'm definitely waiting to see only god forgives before making my mind up. I think I'd love a new role like Half Nelson for him, he was tremendous in that one.
Liotta in the rogue cop is a standard really.
Nicely shot, tight flick. Overall I think it's gonna be one of the movies of the year but let's just wait for "The Immigrant" first, could still blow that one out of the water

Gosling has become a typecast
Liotta is great, Cooper as well
Gosling is great in Drive and amped for Only God Forgives.
He's a great actor in the Beliver, and Half-Nelson.
Refn is why i dig this shit, he makes Gosling so ill, I;m amped to see the violence, Drive was gold, and apparently there is gonna be a sequel. Only God Forgives is supposed to be the new Taxi Driver so amped.

Such a bloody good movie. Shame where I went to see it, only 9 people including me were in the theatre.. 2nd week it was out!
Gosling is brilliant(when isn't he?) and the new kids were pretty damn good as well. Very "real" movie!
If you haven't seen Cianfrance's other movie, "Blue Valentine", do yourself a favor and see it asap.
Only God Forgives, looks INSANE! Super stoked for it, and already can't get Cliff Martinez's brilliant "Wanna Fight" out of my head!
Stoked!

Out of interest what about the film did you find so depressing and disgusting?

depressing might be the wrong word but i was a bit put off by all the very graphic violence. dun kno it just felt so unnecessarry. at the start of the film i had big expectations because the opening sequence where the main guy works as a getaway driver was very intensive and well directed.. i've only seen it once but i think the rest of the movie was ok as well up until the scene at the hotel with all the gore.
the rest of the movie kinda went over my head and i just felt that the violence was even a bit forced and that the filmmakers just wanted to show off with it entirely forgetting about the movie plot. yeah i like some very violent movies, eastern promises for example but this particular film i didn't get anything out of

Haha maybe, I watched The Believer after watching This is England and Romper Stomper, and was already in love with Drive, then started checking out some of his other movies and Place Beyond the Pines has to be one of the best films I've seen in ages.
