What do you use to carry your tunes? Box, bag, trolley??

Post by djslate » Tue Sep 04, 2007 12:53 pm

Been looking to get something to transport my tunes and was wondering what people use. Need it for about 2 hours worth of tunes (60 vinyl).

I think I'm veering toward a bag and not a box, probably a UDG / Odyssey one. Anyone got any recommendations / warnings?

I reckon boxes are only worth it if you can transport using a car. Mine is a probox, holds 80 12"s and is the weight of a small elephant when full. It rarely gets used these days.

I have a UDG trolley bag and the smaller bag thats sits on top of the trolley bag. I would recommend the smaller bag as that will hold 60 12"s. The trolley bag has it uses but i still find it a bit cumbersome...

Bag (soft type) best for travel e.t.c can't be broken in the aircraft hold, YES I DO CHECK MY RECORDS ( LONG HAUL ONLY )

Mine is BIG APPLE brand, sadly discontinued.

It is not that big so if I need more records..

MILK CRATE

tried and trusted, and free.

I have strolled in unembarrassed to many major venues with this.

Fuck it, ghetto music, ghetto styles

Hook up a carrying strap from a sports holdall pretty easy and convenient

Watch the fuckers spilling beer inside though (take plastic bag)

Sometimes I use the old type wood/ali flight case, but it's too heavy!!!!

and contrary to definition, no good for flights (can break / shatter)

If you got dough...SKB flight case internal dimension 13"x13"x13" is unbeatable IMHO suit's all purposes.

just hook up a bit of extra foam inside to stop the rattle.

i also got thee UDG trolley and small bag that sits on top of it, i'd say the opposite with racket though, i find it very hard to go around with my small UDG on my shoulder, every time i have to carry it around town filled with 12"s my shoulder hurts a lot (also i'd say it fits 40 12"s, if you want to be able to check the records from inside the bag (ex. if u have to dj with them - and still is hard on the shoulder when carrying), while my big trolley bag can be carried all day with no hassle and fit very easily 60 records...Both bags fit on plane overseat compartments, so they cant give you any hassle in airports...
Anyway i'd say get the trolley one if u plan to get around carrying your bag, but if you only need it to put inside your car and then take it out in the club omce a week then the small one, myself i travel alot inside the city (distribute records to shops on foot) and away from it (traveling, gigs, etc) and had big trouble with my shoulders and back from hanging 50 12"s in my shoulder, i have to say that the trolley has really changed my life, i had constant pain before...(maybe i'm too weak and old though ) :(

Yeh me too - I thought the trolley bag would make things better but no joy. Its the main reason i have switched to digital djing. Back pain can be unreal...Just pack a laptop, audiophile and a Faderfox controller nowdays. Still occasionally take vinyl when i know i aint gonna need a full bag.

I have a mate who plays ska, hiphop, reggae - turns ups with a suitcase full of records that are all over the place, spends most of the time trying to get the records back in the right sleeves...makes for a good 'pick n mix' set though

I use the UDG Soft bag small, it holds 60 records and isn't that hard to
carry reallly, it holds 60 records. I find I can cram it and then pull out a wad of records and put em against my bag when im playing.

I wouldn't buy the gigantic trolley bags, unless you play 2hr sets all the time I guess. They are fucking HUGE.

I'd probably get the 2 peice UDG set, carry bag + trolley.

Metal box's are mint for playing out, easy to turn the top upside down and flick through your records easy. Pain in the arse to carry though.

Always best to get your DRIVER to carry them.

That's what free entry for accompanying guests is for,

Right?

Haha LOL

Do you MAKE LOVE while wearing the bag?

For reasons of extra downforce I expect.

so THAT'S what the backpack straps are for... I get it.

Word man, I would definitely order direct from the manufacturer. UDG is fucking good too.

I just use a 50-record soft bag with shoulder strap. this is mainly for taking records around to various things. Only thing is it gets kinda heavy, but i'll bet that us DJs need more exercise anyway ;)
