sup guys, just made this snare in fm8, and since I didnt like it that much I'll probably never use it and figured I could give it away instead. Incase anyone likes it :)
Soundcloud
The body is shorter in this second one, making it sound less notey I guess, and just punchy.

Good for your brostep and glitch hop and stufffssss :W:

EDIT: yeah, as the name of it suggests, it's tuned to C (~261hz)
EDIT 2: If you didn't know, soundcloud fucks up the embedding for private tracks, so try clicking the link if you cant play the sound! :)

Yeah, that would be a transient I made in fm8, haha. Used in another snare aswell :)
I can see if I can make a tutorial if that's of interest, but it's pretty basic stuff really. I'd have to make another snare tho, since this flp didnt get saved since I didnt like it

Embedding is a bit fucked up, click the little info box on the side before attempting to play the sound and click the link ;)

I don't use FM8, but I'd be interested in a tutorial if the technique could be used in a different synth... doesn't need to be super detailed I'm just curious about basic steps

Veeery basic stuff, basically there's 3 layers to a snare that you have to make: 1. The transient, so it will punch through nicely 2.The body (the ~200hz stuff) and 3. The stuff to fill out the higher frequencies. In this case it's just noise, but it could be a clap or whatever.
To make the transient, I usually just make a very rich sounding waveform, shape the amp envelope so it's a super short hit (a transient.. haha) and then I will distort, eq, compress, whatever I feel is needed. I dont have a set fx chain :P
Then there's the body, it's just a sine with a tiiny bit of distortion. The amp env of this has a super short attack, so it peaks right after the transient, then a short release.
And in this case I just layered some noise with almost the same amp envelope as the body, compressed it all, tiny bit of waveshaper and bounce :)

So I processed it more and this is the final product:
Soundcloud

It actually sounds pretty nice huh? I used only massive.
Processed crude wt for the transient. Distorted sine for the body. Processed white noise for the tail.

Just listening with my phone now, but the transient seems to pop too much, might just be me tho

That's what makes it snappy?

Yeah, but it sounds out of place from the snare is my point :P
