Oh god..

Post by Augment » Sat Jun 29, 2013 5:48 pm

Just came across an EP from a dude called Coxy Panda, and can anyone of you guess where alot of the samples and like, just the tune, what song it originated from?
Best example of it I found on youtube starts at 1:05 in this preview

It is however on spotify http://open.spotify.com/track/1Tb4zPb7SHxDRTDKxzV4gW

Then listen to this KOAN Sound tune

I'm not the only one hearing this am I?

I dunno what to say about it, I'm kinda shocked tbh, haha.
Hope you don't mind me posting it in production btw, but wanted to know what people think about this kinda stuff/other examples like this

My 2cents:
Coxy Panda is a lame name.

I've seen similar things like this before. It's gonna happen all the time with people emulating artists - there's loads of copycat tracks out there.

Also his tune is fucking irritating. The incessant white noise which sounds like Massive's "bright noise" generator stuck on full did my head in. Although to be fair it's decently mixed and sounds better than other KOAN clones - even some that I've heard on Beatport.

tbh I didn't think it was mixed that well... the wobbles seemed almost random and arrhythmic at times, especially in the beginning, and the sidechaining sounded kind of weird to me. And yeah I guess I'm not a fan of the constant white noise in the background either.

People have become tragically desperate for attention.

yeah but what is the point of dubstep with sub only in the kick, that is shit, thats why they think the tune sounds fat cos the vengence kick has some bass to it, but nothing else does

Oh, another Koan Sound wannabe? Even Au5 and Fractal are on that tip. It's dumb, but hey, everyone wants to sound like Skrillex too. Fuck it, make your music and stop caring so much about what other do.

Hey now, au5 and fractal have their own thing going on, I wouldn't call them koan wannabes at all really.

Absolutely, I cry when I listen to a dubstep track that doesn't have sub.

Sampling is a pretty common occurence in the music production world. Why does it matter where the samples came from, old vinyl records or a newly produced EDM track. Who really cares?

Sampling yeah, but this is pretty much a rip off without credit to the original

yeah but tbh the whole bro scene is trying to sound like someone else so why not just take a shortcut and sample the original, end result is the same.

The melody of the bass lines are different. Similar, but definitely not the same. I don't hear it tbh.

Dont think it can be called dubstep if there's no sub
so then let's invent Substep!
