After a long 8 hour shift of selling alcohol to idiots, lifting crates of assorted wines, and dealing with the never ending hillarious joke to things that don't scan: "it must be free "

I drove home, ate a small bit of food, drank half a shot of black velvet and ran 2 miles. Aaaand to top it off, I'm writing a 5 page essay that's due tomorow.

I'm better than this job. That damn lack of degree or tech-certifications is really keeping me back. I have the drive, I just can't make time move fast enough!

It could be worse, it could be sales or fast food. I miss neither of the three. Customer service is up there as well. All 4 you get to deal with the absolute worst subhuman scum of the human race.

Yeah I do. It's an important skill given that every job you do will have an element of customer service

I disagree, these people need to be told they're being twats and assholes otherwise they just continue to be entitled little pricks who get what they want by trying to create a scene.
The amount of patience and how many times you have to "grin and bear it" when dealing with unruly customers in these fields just isn't healthy stress level wise.

And there's a way to do that without being a twat back.

If you think you don't need to know customer service I'm guessing it's because you don't know what it is and instead mistake it for allowing customers to take the piss.

I did some voluntary work at Benardos last summer, noone should ever shop at Barnardos, it is far from a charity and one of the most hardcore retail exploiters on the highstreet, infact it is a retail outlet pretending to be a charity, it was target driven to fuck paying only half the staff less than min wage and the other half either voluntary or being forced to work via work programme or probation service.

Retail is wank and the americanisation of the high streets has turned customers into selfish unpleasant greedy (c)unts.

No actually I've thrived in all above mentioned fields up the ranks when I worked them and know what it is, it doesn't mean I agree with it.
Most people who genuinely need help are a pleasure to deal with, hell it's even easy to deal with someone who is doing a bit of venting because they're having a bad day, it's those entitled twats who never get told to fuck off that make all these fields a nightmare to work, even if they make up a minority of customers they are always the most memorable and most likely to ruin your fucking day.

Retail IS fucking wank.

Most customers are fine of course, they get it (had alot of people tell me 'You're putting in too much effort for minimum wage mate,' 'Retail would be great if it weren't for the customers, right?' and giving me knowing looks when someone was being a pain) but you'd always get some snobby fucker who expects you to be their personal assistant.

I'll always try and be helpful, especially when someone is polite, but when someone thrusts a bottle of wine into your chest, looks you up and down and TELLS you to go get a case I will put in minimum effort (especially when I'm quite clearly trying to do a stock check or reductions). My manager would have a go, but he just sat on his arse on the computer picking his nose all day so fuck him. When I finally (too late) joined the union I found out about the HUGE fucking file they had on him, and how he had been moved around almost constantly for being a bastard, before finally settling him in our store because it was one with the less staff and a bit out the way. Protip: Join your union, if you can. (The fucker left me alone pretty sharpish once I started paying my dues and saw me hanging around with our gruff northern union rep)

Though to be honest, I'm so skint right now I'll pretty much take anything (thus is the problem).
