Why hasn't there been a GTA style game in a ninja setting?

A cross between Assassins Creed and GTA where you play a ninja in a Feudal Japan style setting. Fucking awesome.

like that red dead redemption thing is like cowboy gta
i could see that would be cool
could run around w/ flying guillotine killing townsfolk

Exactly.
Assassination side quests, helping towns people in the rural areas with bandits, working for/against a feudal lord etc.

i think they set on a more realistic setting though, not that the game itself is actually realistic, just the environment.. agreed it would be sick though, tengu style

they should make a GTA set in paris
start off in a banlieue then work your way into the city

Seriously though, a GTA London reboot would be worth a look, but Paris...meh.

i think its more the people from paris itself that are particularly snooty to foreigners

most people from paris are rude towards everyone tbh, not only foreigners

Fair shout, but a big 'event' is needed to really drive a GTA game, and with Paris the obvious choice would be those riots. But riots were already a key focal point in SA.

Because whenever I've read about actual ninjas, they've ended up looking like massive pussies who spent their entire life running away in the opposite direction of a fight?

Red dead revolver was awesome. I haven't played redemption. But, Gun! That was a awesome (and highly underrated) game. I think that might have been the closest to a gta style game that wasn't gta.
