great article seckle....reading now.
everytime I see a pic of Rubin, he looks more and more out there. The guy is like the Howard Hughes of the music world...lol.
I'm probably just saying that b/c I'm jealous of his beard tho

you're joking right?
he's
directly responsible for some of the most important albums in hip hop. also he's not a business person, he's a music person, and we need more music lover's and less "bottom line" people in the music industry.

maybe he had a hand in some important shit in the past, but let's look at his stuff in 2007/8: vanessa carlton, kid rock, linkin park, metallica, weezer, slipknot
he's totally fucking irrelevant now, so no, i dont think hell be doing much 'saving of the music business'

if that's your thinking, you've got a lot to learn about the music business.

What should probably be kept in mind is that Rubin produces and promotes *pop* music (which, probably to alot of this crowd, is a dirty word). That still doesn't make him any less prolific in what he does, though.
You gotta remember that Kid Rocks, Linkin Parks, and Slipknots of the world have enormous fanbases, despite what we may think of them as artists. And that's in no small part due to Rubin looking at that vast pool of talent out there and seeing what will work.

that doesnt stop him from being a NYC street kid that rose to the position of the 4th most powerful man in rock and roll

if there were more exec's at these conglomerates like rick rubin, the music business will change for the better. i'd take a rick rubin over a jimmy iovine, david geffen or anyone else like that. there needs to be more people that are willing to rock the boat a bit.

Donnie Iner For the Lose
and David Geffen is too busy collecting art to be bothered
he leaves the music biz to his "little people"
