I don't think "popular modernism" has failed...
I think it has been high-jacked in a most complete and aggressive way...ever
and I know who did it...

...and i'm really not trying to be funny in this post...
Kode9 says he's kinda glad it's dead -
I'm guessing he means because we can then get back to making our lives work in the hostile environment that it is...

(Five) Panel discussion?
EDIT - on a non facetious point, I think the death of rave is a bad thing. Rave meant (musically) a time of innovation and experimentation. Nowadays the blog driven music scenes that spring up and die down so rapidly don't have the physical rave based gestation period to allow anything really truly innovative to take hold.

Totally agree, the lifespan of anything decent these days is fucking ridiculously short and that is partly down to webbyjournos and their desire to coin the next term for an emerging scene that will never get a chance to grow.
Also, too many 'intellectuals' got involved in music, over analysing everything, giving everything a title and adding data and figures and looking for cultural reference points in 'scenes' before they can get a pass.

Kode 9 from 31.47
more considered than the first motor mouth
saying jungle 92-97 rewired his brain & changed his body like no other music
neither jungle nor trance did that to me
punk did to some extent but nothing like dubstep did
I perceive the rave thing still ongoing with youngsters clubbing to electro/techno/trap...
it's about immersion, excitement, fellowship, community
it'll end when it's talibanned.

For me - It kicked off big right when all of the "prescribed" pathways of life were failing me...@93'
I had been going to dance clubs since I was 16 - but this was way more...
It offered a sort of alternative future - that was really happening..everything that I loved
- and it was for us and by us - so and so had a video projector - we were all buying records of different genres
- we were really going to do it...
In reality - the painting in art school was proving to be too expensive...
and I just needed to go power some drugs and throw shape for 3 days...
The breakfast on the way home was especially good - and I would sleep for 4 days.
So it was escapism - but escapism with AWOL potential...
I haven't really given up on it totally. It still needs to happen in some way or another.
I'm still fighting the power...

You can wear it with your grafitti shirt...or your chanel sweater

You see that!!! I just said I didn't want to bury this in the fashion thread - and now I'm doing it...
It's all creative industry...music still wins over all though

When I said - the thing still needs to happen in one way or another...I mean't the future
Not neccissarily rave....
without the drugs I have problems staying/staying awake long enough for the thing to get transformational
or epiphinal...
Maybe Kanye was right when he said it was just intimate dinner with specials...
nah - I will never give that guy credit for anything beyond failing to impress - miserably
- AND after nauseating amounts of childish, grossly off target, self-centered, glorification.
I'd buy Kode9 dinner though - I'm working on that 55 - or was it 53 trillion....56 trillion
