A Trip to the Southern Coast of England

Hello Ninjas,

I’m planning a holiday trip to England and Wales. The idea was to drive along the southern coast with a rental car starting at the airport LDN-Stansted. Our rough plan was to drive along the coast before heading to Stonehenge and then head towards Bristol. After spending some time there we’d like to cross the border to Wales. So here’s my question:

What are some nice spots at the coast one should visit while driving around there? Places where you enjoy hanging around watching the ocean with a beer or some nice villages or towns or historical places that a Ninja tourist may like. Also any tips about Wales would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! :t:

Maybe I've misunderstood you, but by cutting up the UK towards Stonehenge and Bristol, you're missing out a tonne of cool shit in devon & cornwall.

Portsmouth & Plymouth have a lot of cool historical shit (big historical naval ports, if you're interested in that stuff). If you're going up towards somerset, then head out to the coast along Exmoor, some stunning places, Porlock Weird, Lynton & Lynmouth, etc. Can get to these places within an hour or two from Bristol.

Would really recommend North Cornwall as well, but depending on time and where you seem to be planning on going, that might be too far out of your way.

Getting across the border into wales can be tough though, they're very strict at the checkpoints.

Thanks,

Stonehenge and Bristol are actually just some basic points we already had on our route but we thought about 2-3 days of driving around in the south before actually heading there. Will look up the places you mentioned. :Q:

It's probably too far but Devon and Cornwall have some of the best beaches, countryside and nice places with proper decent small pubs in the country.

This video about Cornwall...

Bath is nice. You should go there.
So you mean stanstead, then down past London towards Kent/Sussex? then from what Im thinking would be about Hastings, going along the coast West towards Bristol?

As you can see by this wonderous map, Bristol is as far Up from the coast as London (about 2 hours or so)

Our original plan was to come over from Calais to Dover with our own car but with Ryanair being so cheap this doesn't make sense at all. But we wanted to do this coast trip nevertheless. :)

After having a quick look at all the great places mentioned so far I think we will definitely go far more east than originally intended. Bristol might just have to wait...

Yeah man, go to Cornwall fairly regularly, the first time we went to Boscastle we went there. So strange but interesting stuff nonetheless. It was cool too that when we went we were the only people in there.

Priceless.

Going to try that with my Mrs next time we're down the beach.

I once convinced an ex-girlfriend on a beach that people rode Dolphins for sport like horses. Raced them round buoys and everything. I didn't think anything more of it until I met her new boyfriend a couple of years ago and HE told me that people raced dolphins...
