I've been looking everywhere on the internet lately and I can't seem to find any good enough samples to what I want. Even the stuff that sounds close to it, I process and EQ a little here and there, but nothing does the trick.
My question is, does anybody know where I can find some good quality metal or death metal drum kit samples? Maybe a link to a DL site? Kicks, snares, crashes, and rides, all that jazz. Single hits preferably, not loops. Or even a nice plugin that creates drums? I'm stuck.
You can find a set of snares Andy Sneap recorded online, he's the biggest recording engineer/producer in metal.
I get by just fine with sampling from metal and punk, though.
"Question of Integrity" by Agoraphobic Nosebleed has a long-ass drum solo in it. It's made using Drumkit from Hell. The hits i'll be pretty short but you might find something useful in there.
I hate DFH. Just sounds like shit IMO. Only good thing about it is better mixing/routing options. Personally, I'd just stick with EZ or go straight for superior.

I fully agree.
Superior works for me.
I just remembered using it at some point and thought someone might find it useful.
I've been fiddling with Studio Drummer since getting K9 and it's not bad.

I hear a lot of good things about studio drummer. Seems pretty comparable to EZ. Hell, maybe even better?
But yeah, i was disappointed with DFH. Good thing i got it on sale, but i still felt kinda ripped off.

Studio Drummer is pretty sweet.
Kontakt just pushes it one step further.

Drum kit from hell is an expansion for EZ drummer, which will run you $35-70 depending on if you can find it on sale.
If money is no object, go for superior drummer. It's by the same company that makes EZ (toontrack).

There's a pretty good freeware called BIG MONO drums. You can adjust release levels and all that good stuff but it sounds very realistic. It has multiple velocity settings and ranges. Oh and it's for kontakt btw that's probably important to know.

Is there a version of kontakt that is free? Is kontakt just drums?

Yes there is. Go to NI instruments website and download heir free Kontakt 5 player. Kontakt is basically a generator for a plethora of sound libraries. FYI, if you use the free player some of the really good libraries will only load as a demo (action strings, shreddage x). But the free player will give you the capability to use freeware for kontakt.
