Trap/Dubstep Refugee Status

Post by ill mindset » Sun Sep 01, 2013 8:54 pm

What's with these guys that get famous producing Trap or Dubstep and then all at the same time make an exodus for house?

Djing is so trendy that they have to bail on the genres that spawned them at the first sign of a shift in popularity.

Thats kinda like someone getting famous playing rock n roll and then switching to jazz for the next record.

I won't mention any names but you've probably seen a few of these guys post on Facebook.

"Hey guys, for the last time, don't come to my shows expecting to hear a trap set."

Unbelievable homie. You only made trap or dubstep for a couple years and you're bailing on it already? lol

Can you imagine if the DNB guys did that same thing? Dubstep would likely never have been created.

Bait and switch tactics.

People grow. Tastes change.

On a similar note Serj Tankian (System of a Down), came out with a jazz album:

I'm fine with it, but it's laughable when people try to jump on the bandwagon then jump off :6:

You wasteman. Your avatar represents a DNB sellout (lol RIP spor)

Also, you're a brostepper, did Pinch/Youngsta/other true hedz bailed on dubstep when it got popular? No they didn't, but they thought beyod just one genre and incorporate other genres in their DJ sets.

Not even Jah can save you :a:

Tru hed with day job
'Sellout' who can pay their bills by doing what they love

It's not a hard choice for most - people with mortgages and families to support. 'Sellout' can only really apply if an artist has compromised artistic integrity for cash - if any given artist has not made a public statement outlining their artistic outlook and then gone back on that then you can't (shouldn't) call them a sellout.

I wasn't insulting you, you soft tnuc.

No, you don't have to have Tiesto money (i'm just going to assume he's a rich person) to pay the mortgage but you do have to have a) a crowd to play in front of and/or b) people who will buy your tunes. If they dry up and start listening to stuff you're not playing and/or making the bank isn't going to freeze your repayments for you are they.
So if someone put in a lot of years learning how to produce and doesn't really have (m)any other job applicable skills, you really think they should stay true to the sound that made them famous??

what a waste thread.. what are you so butthurt about? i think the majority of dubstep producers and the whole scene moved on to 4x4 beats and different forms of house and techno like 3-4 years ago, that's basically 3-4 years before the mainstream popularity of let's say disclosure or what have you. nothing to do with popularity, act like you know

anyway, you can't always be making the same thing over and over. or if you do it's fucking boring

So for example lets say Skream, he's now playing Disco and whatever, he's obviously loving what he does.

Is he a sellout for 'leaving' dubstep when he said it doesn't interest him? Cos imo, he'd be more of a sell out if he continued releasing/playing dubstep when he wasnt enjoying it and was doing it just for the money.

Photek is another great example of an artist making different genres of music.

I love the way that people assume just because an artist is making one genre of music, it means all they listen to is that genre.
