idk man I just put fruity fast distortion on everything so it sounds loud as fuck then I eq out the noise

Make sure to have a mix which is well balanced to begin with.

Mastering tracks and being able to get them 'loud' with as little negative artefacts as possible takes time, practise and most importantly a monitoring chain that allows you to hear the whole mix and hear what's going on, that way you can make decisions and know exactly how they will translate to the real world (when listening on other systems)

That is a resource that I have started which has got plenty of info on mastering and is updated very regularly so worth bookmarking if you are interested in improving your self-masters.

are you talking about the one where seamless goes through his song Resolve?

It's mostly about perceived loudness, I mean you can straight pump any mix as close to 0 as possible, but that's
not mastering.

I'm not sure what song he played through in his tutorial. The title is mixing and mastering.

Cool thanks for clarifying that, I wasnt sure. He has some really good methods. Sometimes he's pretty lazy which he sails so himself, but over all he's pretty talented in terms of production. But most of his tutorials can be a bit vague so that's why I say it's for the more advanced producers. He's been doing basic tutorials for FL now which is a good move on his part.

You can try to pump as hard as possible in the mix, then try and pump up to 3 db with Inflator or L2 to get uber loud.

I just was in his live stream for tonight and just from the 45 minutes or so I was in there I learned so much. The dude is amazing. Now I actually know how to somewhat use Maximus lol.

Some of his techniques are a bit sketchy though, there's a lot of places in that video where he's slamming the shit out of things with EQ or Comp/Limiting when there's probably better methods that would result in a better/cleaner mix. That's the one thing I've noticed about his tracks - whilst the sound design and ideas are great the mixes can sometimes sound muddy and/or flat.

Thats very true. To be fair he does mention the fact that he's lazy and does things the fast and easy way by squashing, sidechaining through one bus, and crushing the hell out of it in the master track. But I do agree with you. I'm not a lazy producer so I tend to do my mastering and compression differently.
