Anybody have an mpd18? are the pads good? I've been researching and found mixed opinions. If not, does anyone have any alternatives. I'm looking to buy used, my budget is like $80.

Never layed my hands on the mpd18, though u should expect a ''finger adapting curve''. That's what I had with the mpc1000 at least and from what i heard the mpd pads are far more stiffer than the mpc's.
I think it's also possible to uppgrade the pads of most mpd's, you shud check that up.
The machine is crazy sensitive, dun rly digg it... but I suppose u adapt in the end...

I have the MPD32, which I'm assuming has the same/similar pads as the 18. The pads are, in my opinion, pretty rubbish. Not very sensitive. It is possible to upgrade though, which I will be doing as soon as I have some £££
