i made a thread ages ago about owing £220 to student loans and they'd sent it on to some debt collecors

anyway they gave up for like a year and now they've started again, same debt company too

if they've taken this long dya reckon they'll ever bother taking further action?

every time they ring they dont fully tell me who they are and ask for my current address for 'security reasons'. obviously i dont tell them

reckon they'll go to much effort to find me over 200 quid which is from like 2 years ago

cus i could technically pay them this week, but if i dont have to, im not gonna

yeah, safeeee

I still owe Orange like 2 ton for a contract I cancelled. They won't take you to court unless it's a massive ammount, like thousands, and debt collectors can't come round unless it's gone to court. IIRC.

Doubt they'd bother but they do have the power to take you to court and you'll be left with the fees if found guilty (sounds like you will). I refused to pay £600 years ago and got loads of letters.. in the end I paid it cause they sent me a letter with a court date I had to attend if I hadn't paid in 7 days lol.

Doubt they'll go after it?!

If you get a loan somewhere and don't pay it back, they will come get it.. Unless it's different in the UK

if they ring up and dont tell you who they are just tell them to get fucked.

anyway, they'll ask around for a minute to find out where you are, but if they dont hear anything i doubt they would search any harder for such a small amount

oh, and big ups wonga.

I don't think it was even two years ago.
You really should pay though tbh. It'll actually make your life a lot easier if you stop avoiding the truth and start living it.

Not entirely relevant but involves debt collectors:

My brother recently fucked LoveFilm on a technicality over some money he owed when they passed his debt on to the bailiffs. He told LoveFilm he had posted the games he'd rented back to them and that they must have got lost in the post (lies) and that he had previously informed them he couldn't pay the debt at that time and that he would do so when he could afford it. In the mean time he requested that he have his account shut down and his personal information deleted (which they didn't do)...

Then he remembered that when signed up to LoveFilm he stipulated in the contract that none of his personal info should be passed to a 3rd party organisation, obviously then this means LoveFilm broke their end of the contract when they passed his info to the bailiffs thus nullifying the contract and relinquishing his obligation to honour it, when he pointed this out they closed the account immediately, wrote off his debt, cancelled his subscription fees and cancelled the bailiffs

Basically he got a load of games for free just by being a sly bastard

Being a bit of an old c*nt one of the only life lessons I'd pass on is to pay your debts and get a good credit rating. You might think you can get one over on the system but these people do this for a living, they see this stuff every day and don't usually give up, unless you'd really planned ahead and have a whole fake address/bank scam/move abroad thing going then they'll catch up with you or give you bad credit. (I'm guessing they've got a few of your contact details if you were a student and got given a loan?)

I've tried loads of times to skip debts and fucked my credit rating so it's hard to get loans/mortgages/car credit etc.and you have to go through a hassle of really high interest cards to build up your rating- costs you £££.

They've always managed to get the money anyway, via debt collectors and court summons (its easy to take someone to the claims court), also got bad credit on my parents address. Even when I was in the right for a small amount (ebay charging a sellers fee for a motorbike I sold but the guy never actually paid) and I was going out with a lawyer and she spent ages writing to them, 2 years I spent writing back and forth, they still cancelled my account and in the end they sent debt collectors to my parents house, would have saved so much time and hassle just paying the £100!

If you've got the money they just pay it, there aren't many free rides in this world.

(Only time I've seen it work out was a friend who had about £10k of credit card debt he left when he moved to Australis, about 5 years on they havent caught up with him).
