I only just found out about this (i rarely watch the news etc) from seein a sign in me local ciggie shop
it dont affect me (im to old, lol)
but is this affecting any of our younger members?
I mean in the UK now you can leave skool @ 16, join the army, get married, have a kid, yet cant drive a car, smoke a cig or drink a beer

I smoke and i think it's a good idea - if the smoking age had been at 18 when i was a kid i probably wouldn't have started and would be feeling the effects now.

Mate if you are so pissed off with the state of Britain why do you live here?

btw you can have a kid whenever you like - there's no legal age for that - and you can only get married at 16 with parental consent and you can drink with your meal from the age of 16 and as long as the person who bought the alcohol was over the age of 18 and you are drinking in a private place ie your house or someone elses house you can drink from any age and i guess it's the same with cigarettes

i've quit smoking a few months ago, don't think it's a bad thing actually.
at school you could smoke in your thirth year, meaning when you were 15
it's unimaginable how many kids got there as non smokers just to turn to addicts after a month.
ok, it's only partially but the later the better, at 18 you're less under peer pression than at 16 anyway (hopefully).

It is a shit habit (coming from a long-term smoker) and has fuck all to recommend it. If it wasn't for complete lack of willpower I probably would have quit way back.

I think when the cancer photos on packs come in, and smoking outside the pub in winter means getting soaked and cold, I'll probably try and give up again. Or I might just stay in and do it

Kids can still smoke, it's just that from October the 1st they'll have to be 18 to buy tobacco (so not kids anymore). If they want it then they can grow it as it's legal to do so in the UK.

If they want to actively support massive multinationals who knowingly lied to millions of customers about the Carcinogenic and Cardiomyopathic effects of their product for decades then they can fuck off to another country and do it. The whining little twats.

lol, now I don't really care about the smoking age thing.. and I've never smoked cigerettes or anything, never will, but this new law is crazy :D proper chris morris business.

almost as funny as the HUGE stickers telling me that smoking when pregnant will harm my baby. maybe they don't think anyone under the age of 20 can read anymore

bingo bango. There's no redeeming feature to smoking at all, defending for any reason, even to accuse the government of being a nanny state, is utterly pointless and ultimately misguided.

I think those big stickers are just supposed to be a psychological reminder, cos I'm sure there is virtually no-one who doesn't know the dangers of smoking by now (in UK anyways) - the theory being that constantly being told will disrupt the cognitive dissonance that allows people to accept smoking (whilst deep down knowing it is bad for them).

But I suspect people have got used to the labels pretty quickly, and don't even see them anymore, so the diseased lung photos are just the govt. upping the game, trying to create shock value again.

I always thought it would be funnier if they marked the cig papers with a time-scale, showing the "five minutes" of your life (based on average life expectancies) burned away by each cigarette.

Actually, you probably burn away 10 minutes of your life in reality, cos it takes another five minutes to smoke the fucker!

The smoking ban is a much more thought out tactic. People will have a stronger response to being forced to stand outside in the pissing rain than they will to sitting in a pub reading a slightly hysterical looking health warning.

Now all the government need to do is hunt and kill all of the life-long smokers who have survived past the age of 65. Then there will be no ifs or buts, and no "I might outlive you non-smokers" bollocks.

well like it or not the smoking ban was pretty popular, so I reckon it's just another case of trying to keep the momentum going.. win some more votes, carry on reminding people that THE GOVERNMENT ARE GOOD

I don't think Whistla was saying 'I hate this country' - he was pointing out the irony of the situation ?

They're already a bit surreal aren't they - carping on about finest blends of tobacco on one side and then telling you "SMOKERS DIE YOUNGER" on the other.

Judging by some of the posts here, there's definitely some difficulty with writing for the poor things - textspeak twats

Looking forward to the "Y H8 M8" response - cause you're an illiterate fucktard is the answer to that one. And I'm not your m8, mate

I realise this but his avatar and posts together do give the impression that he's not Britain's biggest fan.
