LFOTool is an FX utility plug-in for VST and AudioUnit hosts for both Macintosh OS X® and Windows®. It empowers music producers to create tremolo, auto-pan, trance-gate, side-chain compressor simulation, and dubstep-type wobble effects with minimal effort.

For FL Studio users there is "GrossBeat" which is already a built-in plug in and does the same exact thing.

LFOTool is pretty old....I guess there's a lot of hype going back into it since Nicky Romero posted his own version today which is a total rip off of LFOTool and x10 shittier...and has no options at all. I seen a stream himself and he said he uses LFOTool for sidechaining...so he just has his own plug-in for monetary purposes of course.. BESIDES THE POINT.

LFOTool kind of lacks from my experience that it can't follow double-bass patterns/fast 1/8 note kicks or whatever since it's at a set pattern if you know what I mean. So the good ol compressor sidechaining works best imo.

It's pretty neat if you ask me but takes awhile to route and make the parameters fit to your liking. I know deadmau5 uses this tool quite a lot for making his, I don't how to call it but whomp basses? You hear it quite a bit in progressive Tbh.

Grossbeat doesn't include a filter section though, the filter part of LFOTool can make some pretty cool things. I found out the other day though that Daft Punk used Grossbeat on the TRON soundtrack, pretty cool...

I demo'd Nicky Romero's new plugin the other day - it does what it says and that's pretty much it. It works nicely, the preset curves work for the tempo/kick combo's I tried and the wet/dry knob is a nice addition. Tbh it's literally just a re-skinned, dumbed down version of the Cableguys Volume Shaper (Cableguys made NR's plugin) and for ~£9 it's a cheap solution. It's also seemingly backed by Madeon and Knife Party among others.

LFOTool can follow any pattern you set it as long as it's quantised (1/4, 1/8 etc. including triplets and stuff). Also there's a new version out fyi

I think it's pretty useful in terms of sidechaining as you're simply attenuating the signal and not colouring the audio in any way plus you can have really quick ducks. Idk personally I prefer volume automation using a combo of LFOTool and manual curves and quite a few producers seem to use this method (many seem to use LFOTool tbh)... I guess you just use whatever sounds best.

I've used it for a while, but i tend to go back to regular sidechain compression now. It's just easier to set up, plus often i'll put in some kicks that aren't exactly on a 4th note so that's annoying in lfotool.
