Lorn returns to celebrate the release of DEBRIS, a new 4-track EP for Ninja Tune out September 2nd that sounds as though it's been kicked down the block a few times, soaked in reservoir water, and lain out to dry amongst some of the very wreckage it represents. Expect gems from Self Confidence 3 to grace your ears, cut into new shapes of course.
Lorn has always had a distinctive way with form and texture, from 2010's 'Nothing Else' on Brainfeeder to 'Ask The Dust' on Ninja Tune last year. On this new EP for Ninja tune he makes beats clatter and crackle with menace and powerful dark intent. Field recordings scrape up against guitars and and crumbling synthesizers, the drops are cavernous, radiating doom and drama. Throughout it sounds like noises are being pulled apart, each sound stretched, bent and twisted to the limit. That slightly unbalanced aesthetic adds to the majesty. 'Debris' is a work of sound architecture that is all the more incredible for sounding like it could all implode at any second. A masterful record of darkness and tension that occupies a haunting, hard-edged space all its own.
Unafraid and unhinged, Lorn’s music is exquisitely dark and ominous, simmering with anger that churns forcefully against a furtive longing. Yet Lorn passes far beyond this evocative brutality and plunges head first into the absurd; he draws not only a portrait of shadowy struggle but also arouses a dynamic universe of sentiments using deconstructed sounds and skills built from the ground up. Sharing his music online with other explorers of new software technology, Lorn cultivated a global following with his original scratch beats and traveled to play in the UK, Europe and Canada before ever releasing an album.

Also on deck, Dolor plans to test a few new projects up his sleeve. Earlier this year he released his debut EP, Misteria, on London-based label Technicolor. It's an exquisite record, right down to the dazzle camo cover illustration by Anna Higgie. Heaters like Our Number shine like a cold sharp sun, while Its Sexy Outside is your heart's worst nightmare with the heaviness and ethereal beauty it wields.
Dolor's first official solo release on new label Technicolour doesn't disappoint, after his strong collaboration with Lorn on their Drugs mixtapes – three 15-minute slices of dark, psychedelic electronic weirdness which came out in 2012. His production, which combines spectral, sub-heavy bass with minimalist hip-hop and post-dubstep beats, heavily processed vocals and subtle synth stabs, is instantly recognisable, exploring similar territory to the aforementioned Lorn collab, and adventuring into post-Burial, narcotic soundscaping in a similar manner to Vessel and Holy Other. It's Sexy Outside surprises with a switch-up to pulsing, high-BPM electro, while the brilliant Classic Is Over features a blistering, low-slung verse from rapper 18andCounting. Misteria announces the presence of a new and exciting talent. - [Bram E. Gieben]

adoptahighway joins in on the festivities, bringing a wealth of classical training and jazz improvisational work to the forefront to shatter any preconceptions of what electronic music should or shouldn't be. The ideas explored in his most recent release, Black Umbrella Be Inside, translate perfectly to a broader experience spent shaping our identity through memory-- sometimes trying to escape it, while other times often wishing we could hold on.
Using controllers and performance software, his live shows are energetic, emotive, engaging and honest. Clark firmly believes that, rather than tag genres or artists to his music to give a predetermined expectation, listeners should be encouraged to open their ears and try to find their own connection to the sound.

Anyone familiar with Grant's chapbooks or column for delphian, inc. knows his writing exhibits a certain intensity, a black yet humorous awareness of the austerity of existence, which will ensure its survival. He is also very funny. In anticipation of the release of his debut novel, The Persistence of Crows, Grant will be reading from a collection of his published work, meditative pieces, and "also a bunch of sidebars where I talk about cereal and mumble curse words."

THE DEMIX

The Demix rounds out the bill and is purely in it for the fun. He loves showcasing good music for good people, moving the crowd with tactful, cinematic sets that reconcile his musical influences, technical ability and thirst for destruction.
