Bestival 2007- Anyone go?

Post by ts (yesyesiow) » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:36 am

I'm sitting here on my beautiful home, the Isle Of Wight, reflecting on yet another sick weekend at the Bestival. So much wicked music going on over the 3 days with awesome performances from the likes of Zion Train and Horace Andy but the real triumph here was for Dubstep in my opinion.

At last years Bestival Kode 9, Digital Mystikz and Skull Disco represented. I missed Skull Disco but both Kode 9 and the Mystikz were badly attended and not looked after by the sound crew...................

This year however.............
Mary-Anne Hobbs; Wicked set, just kept on filling up with people raving out at 4.30 in the afternoon

Kode 9 + Space Ape; Played straight after, more people came in wicked vibes and sounds continued

Mala+Pokes; played straight after Horace Andy on Sunday evening and it was rammed, going off and sufficiently loud enough (it can always be louder), sick sick set and the highlight of my Bestival for sure

To compare this to last year really illustrates the growth of Dubstep as a whole, including following, reputation and the way the music itself has progressed. It was also interesting to hear how many non Dubsteppas chucked in the odd track, including Tayo, Bobby and Nihal, a techno guy who's name I didn't catch and the mighty Luke Vibert.

Its on the up and up but the key thing is the force has remained strong within the scene and the good vibes are still there, with the inclusion at the Bestival of at least 40% of the crowd being............................................................. FEMALE!!!!!!!!!

And loving it. Have we hit the next level?
I put on a Dubstep night recently (on the I.O.W) and 200 people turned out and went for it all night, which I was personally surprised at but also enthused to do another one.

Any other heads go to the Besty? Anyone see it differently to me?
Anyone up for playing on the I.O.W in the future?

Love to hear some thoughts................

I was there, but I missed everything apart from the DM. Mala & Pokes set was the highlight of my festival too, great to see so many people going for it at 6 in the evening. Everyone I spoke to outside afterward was absolutely buzzing.

Wicked to hear that your on it man, may the growth continue. Although Dubstep is a big feature of the parties I want to do, with the I.O.W being a bit limited for crowd numbers its all about chucking loads of different music in there as well, after all the party is the most important thing!!!!!

Yeah Kode 9 smashed it even though the system wasn't up to much. As usual he is on the next level. Loved the detroit vibe halfway through, and the 8-bit styles, and the Warrior Queen stuff... Best thing I saw all weekend (Mala a close second).

I went last year and kode9/DMZ was annoying when the soundguys kept cutting out the subs and DMZ pretty much did the right thing by walking off.

This year was way better though kode9 was in a smaller tent which was better although the soundsystem was a little weak the tune he played were rediculously good and he just kept playing for like an extra 10 minutes.

DMZ was also good soundsystem had good weight and there was nuff people there compared to last year where there was llike 50. Horace Andy was really good before hand.

Did anyone catch Jah Wobble i thought some of there stuff was ok.

ooooo and btw does anyone know what that 8bit sounding thing kode9 played last?????? i neeeeed to find it i think half my brain collapsed when i heard it. One of the best tunes i've heard in a while!!!

boys it was sick got the last of Kode 9 & the spaceape but they played out for a good 15-20mins, loved the packedness of the tent, also loved that dubstep sets were recommended on everyday!

horace andy--- dmz---dubpistols was the best 3 in a row of the festival i was speaker left for the whole thing flappin' trinidad and tobago flag all over the place. loved the fact that the big top was rammo and the set wasn't watered down like andy c's. the weather was soooo nice.

on the females at dubstep front its the same everywhere the girls are loving the low down and dirtiness, most events u go now you'll see loads of girls there its not just shaved heads and new era its all over the place.

greg issacs and easy star all stars mashed the main stage and the speaker set up for the stage was the best i've had at all festivals this year clean and crisp with loadsa weight.

bigup everyone that went, anyone that didn't u missed out
