So who here's interested in beats? I mean stuff that's influenced by the Brainfeeder crew, madlib, el-p, clams, devonwho, kutmah etc. My stuff seems to click most when im on this tip, so yeah i'd love to start a thread where i could talk to some other people who make this sort of stuff. Any tips/your own beats/questions/sample goldmines are welcome
Here's a beat i made recently with reverb, another member of this forum:
And a question: Samiyam or FlyLo?

I make beats, but they're more of the new school soundscape. I like this it reminds me of clams casino.

Thanks man. Yeah the soundscape-y type of stuff seems to be quite popular nowadays. You heard of oneohtrix point never? hes not exactly a beats producer but he makes some influential stuff for people interested in that sound

Yess, good to see some interest in this. Recently I've been on Lonely at the Top by Lukid, it's a good album for people interested in this type of music; recommended to me by Geneveev Not strictly traditional beats as such but you can see the similarities, definitely interesting stuff. He gets some real nice textures with his sampling. Here's one of the tracks, the video's from incnic actually haha big ups m8:
thanks nevalo, lol yeah thats probably the reverb influence man he loves lana
noways you can do the WWIII thing to this thread yeah huehu post bare lynx mate, i'll definitely be checking them

Haha, I'll do the WWIII on ur moms.
My playlist w/in this genre is a couple of years old. In all honesty. I grabbed a bunch of tunes and kind of holed up for a couple of years. In terms of my own production I've kind of been stuck between boyish early reflex and warp releases, and this west coast beat thing. There is a lot of overlap there. My production skills and personal health are just getting to the point where I feel like I've got a shot at making something interesting.
But as this Clams kind of sing songy thing started happening, I kind of moved away in terms of listening. Not my thing. I like bigger beats, raw synths, and deep invention.
This track could be from Global Goon from the mid to late 90's:
And like more traditionally Beat oriented (kinda where I'm at like right now, getting back to a more strictly boom bap):
This is my joint right here:
Boyish big beats with raw synths! Really like this stuff.
Obligatory ancient alien Dogon/Kemetic space jams:

Yeah, sp 404sx, microsampler, tenori, microkorg, and maschine are kinda things that come in and out of the lineup. Most everything has been mothballed, just 404 lately. Haven't made music in a while. Just getting back at it.
I also just work in flstudio with battery or other drum samplers. Whatever is clever. I might take beats from computer to hardware to the computer back out to hardware, and then back into the computer. Ch'know? Just that 404sx is like magic. It just makes magic happen. So many flaws! It is beautiful!
