That 303/Acid Sound Without using 303's Tip Thread

Hello,

Here's an example of the sound, it's unmissable:

That squelchy acid techno 303 sound.

I'm interested to hear some tips on how to get the sound as above, or the building blocks for it, then tips on how to add movement or other twists to make the sound unique to your track.

I'm in Massive, but I'm sure any instructions will work cross-synth.

Cheers!

I use Vanguard for my 303 stuff, you could look at Phoscyon too - meant to be good.

As for Massive, start off with the Acid wavetable :P

The squelchy acid sound comes from filters and distortion, fucktons of it

But nothing sounds like a 303 except a 303 (or an emulation thereof) -- the slide is very important

I can post some Ableton racks later of how to get the basic sound with Ableton native plugins (overdrive, autofilter, operator)

Sorry! Forgot about this. Here is an Ableton patch for you guys.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/337 ... 0DSFv2.adg

NOTE: It requires Devastor and the Max 4 Live enveloper follower. http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=183 (demo it if you don't own it to see what's going on, it's easy to recreate in Ableton)
Sorry, I had tried to make it without Devastor, but for some reason when I hooked up Ableton's Auto Filter to the macro it was ignoring the parameters I had mapped to the macro and always sweeping all the way. Not sure why. Legit Ableton 9.

I also added a rack I made to make Yai sounds with native ableton plugins at the end, just for fun.

As far as ableton goes, there's always ck.acid-device. It's not perfect, but it does a pretty good job if you're going to process it anyhow.

Here's a purely native version. Not as good as the one I made with Devastor, but still gets the point across. I realized what the problem with the macros was. It was the min/max parameters in the M4L Envelope Follower device overriding the macro min/max.

Of course, it still requires M4L.

Oh, also, you can modify the distortions in the patches I posted to be less, and the filters to have more resonance, if you want an example more like the second song.

Additionally, you should really take a look at Phoscyon.

Forgot about this thread - will defo check out Styrus!

A friend has the Phoscyon - it's pretty sick for sure. I might save the dollar, only 60 euro so hardly bank breaking. I'll see what Styrus will do first - never thought of looking there!

Zombie thread, but I wanted to bring this up because I had been looking for something to get that 303 sound for ages before stumbling across these videos. Spent a while fiddling and now in 303 heaven.

Soundcloud

^ Proof. All done with Ableton native synths and samples. I'm happy to send the thing my 303 thingy if anyone wants.
