pelicanneck- the shopfront of www.boomkat.com- should have mostly anything you can buy online in stock (dubstep only- they don't really do much grime apart from maybe planet mu bits and pieces). follow signs from oldham street to the buddhist centre and its tucked away in a little cafe opposite.
eastern block on oldham street is worth a look too. generally speaking manchester's absolutely wicked for music shopping, but weirdly i've never found it that good for the dubstep/grime side of things.
then again, i'm from sheffield so maybe someone from the other side of the pennines should be advising you?!

That sounds about right. Defo try an find Pelican, the cafe it's in is called oaklahoma.
I think Piccadilly Records has a few bits in as well. It's on the same road as Eastern Block (Oldham St) but a bit further up.
See you Friday.......

Hello,
This thread is 7 years old, but can someone give me some updated info on dubstep/dnb vinyl shops in Manchester? i.e Piccadilly still exists, but (according to their homepage) they only have a few vinyls of the genre in stock. Surely a lot has happened in 7 years, I've read that many shops there have been closed down. As I'm flying in in a few weeks, I only have aone day to go for vinyl hunting, so homework has to be done beforehand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eastern Bloc have some but its pretty small, however it is more suited to dnb/dubstep.. Piccadilly usually has a decentish amount of dubstep too but it's mostly indie or house.
I couldn't find TMSV - Haze in either when it came out so they aren't overly great.
Piccadilly does have a good selection of reggae and dub though.

Does pelican neck still exist? Was a sick shop before it became Boomkat.

Eastern Bloc is the one, alot of the time if they don't have a particular record in that you're after, if you just ask Jim nicely he will order it in for you if he can. Store is pretty well connected, I've never had problems getting the vinyl I want from there.

Eastern Bloc also does rocket fuel disguised as coffee. Buy some tunes, then cotch up with a brew and a few of the free music papers.
Piccadilly has a nicer selection of dubstep and 'bass' music than Eastern Bloc, but its more on the house/tech/130 side of things, or at least it was over January when I went in.
The vinyl/tape exchange just across from Piccadilly Recs on the corner has one of the best digging basements I've had the pleasure of abusing. BARE boxes of white label dnb promos tucked under the racks!
