Doomed - Don't Let Them In Your Head (Feedback Appreciated)

Post by Doomed » Wed Nov 06, 2013 3:10 am

This is my newest song
Soundcloud

I am going for a filthier feel to my music, however I feel like I am missing a groove to it or something.

Let me know what you think and feel free to give me any ideas I like that :D

I appreciate the concept of this song but it honestly feels like there's no energy to it. The intro seemed to go on way too long without building energy and there is essentially no buildup. Both of those things combine to make the drop feel very expected and unexciting. Also all the bass sounds and notes in your drop are almost exactly the same which gets boring literally after 5 seconds. There is also literally no high end to your song at all besides the snare and the extremely negligible hi-hats, which is a major problem. If you think about electronic music as a sandwich, your song would be a sandwich of just bread. Wheat bread at that. While an extremely low-end heavy song like this can work under the right conditions, the basses are not nearly diverse enough to meet those conditions. It also feels as if your track has literally no melody. Honestly, I would try to explain to you how you might be able to improve these things in a successful manner but there are too many things to name. Don't take this the wrong way, the song is creative and has a good concept behind it, but it needs some major, major work. I hope you don't get offended by my brutally honest critique.

I am definitely not offended one bit, I appreciate the feedback. It is the reason I posted this ;)
I realized the same with the high end, I thought about adding some higher frequency melody but never ended up finding a sound I liked..
As far as the intro, usually I try and work pretty hard on them.
Should I try and focus on slowly adding sounds in rather than just a clash of sounds?
I am trying to picture how to make it a little more unpredictable for the build-up.
Thanks again for giving me some feedback, I'll be re-reading it and trying to implement your ideas :)

Also I really struggle with creating drops and sounds that work well for them.
I've always gotten really frustrated when trying to create a drop.
These is honestly the best personal one I've ever had just because it sounds a little heavier to me.
Might even just be the ride and me compressing my kick/snare differently for once.
Do you have any tips on creating drops from scratch?
Should I make sounds first then try and think of something?
I usually just make some sounds and fuck with them til I feel it fits well enough, however I'm pretty new to EQ'ing and most of the other audio effects to make everything dynamic and clear.

i like the filth man. even if it lacks a little energy maybe its not supposed to be a high energy song yano? it can still be filthy without being crazy hype music. but as far as what you said about the groove- i feel it could use some haha. my advice would be to add in a percussion with some swing. maybe add a little high hat or cymbal of sorts with a swung rhythm (snap your grid to triplets and place the perc hit in the last space of each group of three essentially). maybe that would also help add some energy into the song too. either way great track man haha

You are fucking awesome. Just because you are you. And because you look on this forum for music.

Hell yeah thanks man!
I actually just was shown what a groove is yesterday :D Well some shaker groove my friend put in his song, but I kinda see the idea, I will try it with some percussion!!
I can really see how that'd help add energy for sure.
Thanks again
