Was asked this today. What's your opinion?

No reason to fear death
but dying, for sure.

'fear' is a weird word to describe it. I obviously don't want to die, I don't believe theres anything after you die and its a little depressing to think about but I don't fear something that's inevitable for everybody.

yeah the idea of not being here depresses me, doesn't really scare me tho

our generation will probably live for ages anyways, we'll probz wanna die

i've been reading Schopenhauer and other pessimists recently and i don't really know what to think tbh

Anyway, no, I am absolutely not afraid of death.

I'd prefer not to die.

For the vast majority of my life so far the answer has been no though a fear has gripped me from time to time.

Depending on how you read these two lines, with different inflections than I suspect they were intended, they seem entirely contradictory.

i'm not afraid of dying.
i'm afraid of the pain that is caused by your death, both physically and the emotional pain that is inflicted on your loved ones.

also about there being nothing after you die
imo after death is the same as before life. its not "nothing" its so much less than that it doesn't even exist. you're dead, so how can you know that you're dead?

i dont think dying from having a gun in your mouth is really the scary part; it'd more be the "how the fuck did i get in this position?". you're not just dying, you're being murdered.

Because you're holding on to misconceptions of permanence

Are they misconcemptions or are u fighting ur minds intrinsic defense of death seeing as humans are the only species aware of their own mortality

Which i believe manifests itself as fear

So u can say im not afraid but u really would be if directly confronted with it

They are misconceptions, yes, because nothing is forever.

Fear of the unknown and unknowable is natural, of course, but you don't think that can be overcome??
