Yeah, I think this is pretty stupid imo. You know what might be asked of you when you take the job, don't moan when you have to do it. Perhaps people that don't wanna do shit based on their religion could take a slightly lower wage....
Re: m&s giving religious people more choice
If the sight of someone else buying pork offends you, a supermarket might not have been the wisest job choice.
Unless they're there on a placement..

Re: m&s giving religious people more choice
I'm not too bothered with the fact that the policy exists as much as there are people working there who make use of it. If M&S wants to allow their employees to let their religious views hinder their ability to provide a good service to their customers, they can go ahead and do it. In the long run I think it'll end up biting them in the ass anyway and they've worked themselves in a nasty position where they would probably want to revoke the policy, but if they were to do that, they would catch flack from the muslim community for it.

By their logic, an atheist could refuse to do any work that is remotely connected to religious beleif, if they don't grant them that right it's off to the tribunal we go.
Most off-licenses are run by Muslims so this is bollocks.

Is it just explicit pork and alcohol products that are off limits? Or is stuff like alcohol-based cleaning products, mouthwash, stuff that uses pork gelatin off limits too?

Be a nightmare checking all the ingredients at the tills man.
Re: m&s giving religious people more choice
lol, I got out of working on the tills and putting out anything Christmas related for 'religious' reasons when I worked in a supermarket.
If I can do it I don't see why Muslims shouldn't be allowed to - it makes very little difference to the day-to-days of a supermarket.

Re: m&s giving religious people more choice
Pretty much 99.99% of Muslims who work at M&S probably won't give 2 fucks what you buy and will happily sell you it.
Its not gunna stop me trying to find someone who refuses to serve me though, surely if they turn you down you're entitled to just walk out with it? Not stealing if you tried to pay IMO.
Free wine & pork here I come!

Re: m&s giving religious people more choice
I had a Indian friend back in grade school that couldn't touch pork because of religious reasons (he was a Hindu). People have beliefs that are instilled in them deeply and you can't change that shit. No reason to hate on a ******, because you want to force him to do something that you find simple. Also, according to the article, only one person has actually used the policy so I wouldn't exactly be losing my shit.
