Oh Intel. Oh Intel. You crazy, beautiful bastards. Meet the Edison. It’s a dual-core computer that literally fits inside an SD Card-sized footprint. And you thought the Raspberry Pi was impressive.
The Edison is packing an unbelievable amount of power for the footprint in which it lives. It’s a dual-core system with a 400MHz large core and a variable smaller core that clocks between 50MHz and 200MHz. It’s packing 500MB of RAM (!!) as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication abilities.
That all might not add up to much by modern standards, but this thing fits inside a freaking SD card. Whoa.
Intel wants to use the Edison as the brain of 2014’s smart wearable technology. The company showed off the Edison powering weird stuff like a tiny smart toy car and a smart coffee cup (???), but we’re sure it’s going to be stuck inside something much cooler before the year is out.
The Edison will be on the market so to speak in mid-2014.

extremely cool but not very surprising. There will be an emerging market for smart ecosystems where your phone and tablet can be used in conjunction with a massive range of devices. It already is happening with smart TVs and smart thermostats etc.
It's gonna be exciting what's gonna happen in the future.

Can you say subpack without a motor?

Nah, they'd just play Al Green tunes and you could make them vibrate or something, maybe have anti-virus on the outside so they let you know if your partner has got the bug.

eh? fail to see how this would have anything to do with creating a transducer-less subpac. as previously stated this kind of thing already exists inside high end smart tv's etc. although it's intel so i'm sure this is going to take it one step further. been hearing "project edison" for a good while now, didn't know it was a microcomputer.
i think this is cool because it's intel's first (i think..) major plunge into building a complete computer. so far all i think they really do are processors, SSD's and maybe some commercial stuff.

I just pulled the idea out of my ass because you like the subpac.
Didn't think my ideas would be evaluated for relevancy.

I think Intel makes everything from RAM to motherboard.
I've only used Intel gpu and cpu though.

They've announced:
- a baby monitor that links up to a coffee cup
- heart monitor earbuds
- dual boot system for Windows and Android
- Large money prizes for good suggestions for smart devices
Samsung will be launching a whole bunch of smart/connected home appliances this year as well.

Will be interesting, has the potential to revolutionise the way we live, or it could be gimmicky shit. only time will tell i feel.

The Luddite/pessimist in me says it'll be this. More useless shite that we'll become dependant on before that massive solar flare fucks all the electronic equipment.

Probably nothing that will profoundly change your life but stuff parents would probably be interested in.

The mechanisms of control are miniaturized and wearable. The clocktower to the wrist watch, the grid of time was forced on everyone. We are experiencing (begging) for another overlay.

Intel and other chip manufacturers will be doing loads of shit like this whilst they continue to hold out on their real stuff, all in the name of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
