Hi all, it's been a minute since I came around here.
I've been listening to this
Soundcloud
and this
Soundcloud
NON stop.
I don't really know what kind of music you'd call it, but I am FEELING it.
I have no idea how to do this kind of thing... I mostly make minimal slower chilled out stuff. I do sing but I haven't messed with glitching out vocals.
How can I approach this kind of rhythmic feel? It's choppy but smooth...
These tracks also have a bunch of percussion sounds and a million different synth patches it seems. (particularly the willow beats track)
Do you think they are using samples or actually generating all those sounds with synths?
Any advice appreciated.
much love.
glitchy, skippy rhythms... but somehow smooth

The drums come from UK Garage. You might call this Future Garage. futuregarageforum.com has at least one thread on the topic.
Try putting a hat on the off-beats, then some other hats off the grid.
I do think those are samples.

alchemy is a awesome tune!
Id go for something like nectar to repitch and harmonize the vocal samples
once you have a melody then you can chop/edit them further
For skippy drums i like to just write patterns in triplet mode (never really liked abletons swing much)
Offbeat hats that sound good with your normal snare (plus the odd kick/clap moved slightly)
