AKAI EIE Pro?

I've been looking into picking one of these up because I'm looking to get some more outboard gear, but I'm reading a lot of mixed reviews. People are either giving it 5 stars or 1 which seems really surprising to me because everything I've ever had from Akai has been awesome. Anyone have any experience with these that can help me make a decision? If no one has anything good to say I'll just pick up a usb mixer or something, but the monitoring switching options on the EIE and the VU meters are nice touches since I do some recording for friends from time to time so I just don't know....

I have the regular ( non-pro ) version. It is a nice device, but it's not amazing. The regular EIE is class compliant, which is why I'm using it, although I do not believe the Pro version is the same way. The VU indicators aren't a nice touch; they aren't very useful to me at least.

Thanks man, I actually think I might be trading some kit for a presonus firestudio. Anyone know if firewire to usb adapters are alright? never used em' mefore

Im not positive but I think that might cause some issues. You could look at MOTU, all of their new interfaces are hybrid firewire/usb.

Thanks man, I think I'm gonna trade for that firestudio and use a scarlett I have laying around in the meantime. When I get paid I'm building a desktop, so I'll just install a firewire card in that.
