Since our first party of 2014 falls on Valentine's Day, we thought we'd step outside of our usual box and bring something different.
At around the turn of the Millennium, DJ Slimzee was one of the founding members of the Pay As You Go Cartel who went on to hold an integral part in the pioneering of the grime sound. His involvement with Rinse FM from the jungle days then progressed to the release of Sidewinder tape packs which were host to the then developing styles of Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. In 2005, Ofcom disconnected the pirate station, Rinse FM, and as a result Slimzee received an ASBO for his involvement. Slimzee's style still purely sits in the grimier end of the garage spectrum and we're really looking forward to having him at City Bass.
MC Godsgift was also a part of the Pay As You Go cartel. It's been a very long time since he's grabbed mic on Slimzee's set, so this is going to be a big one. Godsgift has recently been working alongside Wiley on a collaborative project, which has seen the release of their new single 'And Again' on Big Dadda.
Riko started off as a drum and bass MC, getting air time on London's pirate radio stations from the age of 15. He would have been a part of the transition from the Pay As You Go cartel to Roll Deep, but unfortunately missed out on this due to having to spend some time at her majesty's pleasure. In 2004, Riko joined the Roll Deep entourage and despite pursuing a solo career, he's pledged his allegiance to the crew.
Amongst us, we hold a diverse taste in music at City Bass and this booking is the perfect meeting ground which encompasses parts of all of our musical roots.
