Out of Curiosity

I've never produced while wrecked, but I bought a G of Pineapple Express (too poor to afford more) and plan to tonight with no serious outcome of it. That being said, what's DSF's experience with it?

I'd honestly learn how to make quality toons, then maybe the weed can take you to the next level. But you have to develop your judgement and actual production chops first. Know some people who produce for years, and never learn anything because they only produce stoned.
It is dangerous, imo.

The downside with producing whilst high (on anything) is that you can spend 3hrs tuning a snare without realising it.

I assumed it was a metaphor in this instance.

this exactly. I might add that you should ONLY get high and sit down to a tune when you think you have no ideas and only need some creativity. First of all it is really like hearing your tune for the first time when you are stoned as fuck and lsiten to it. and then you might instantly spot some issues which you wouldn't be able to since you are USED to them. And also, some crazy ideas might come, i have had sever breakthroughs in tunes like this.
BUT! be really aware not to produce much high, coz then you will get used to it and do it only that way (because you are dumber when you are high and it is more easy to entertrain yourself therefore you might think something is good while in reality it is not). this also leads to thinking that you are better producer while you are high,
but the truth is that you are only a worse listener.

i once made a tune drunk and somehow managed to turn off "snap to grid/beat" in the clip arranger and couldn't figure out how to turn it on. spent like 3 hours making a track where every element was wildy out of time.
never again.

I think the more wasted you are, even though it will take you longer to accomplish something, the track tends to have more of a groove to it.

Really agree with that. But to really harness the groove, move it through a track, you really need to know what you are doing, imo. I'd say produce intensely for a couple of years, and when you can sit down, and just crank out tune, from writing to mixing to ghetto mastering, all in one sitting. Then maybe you can ride the green dragon.
Yes pineapple express is a real thing. Y'all need to repudiate your UN treaties and join us in the 2000's.

I dont think getting wrecked helps. I like to have a little toke or a couple beers. Like just enough to begin to alter your perception. This is for starting a fresh tune.
For the down and dirty arrangement work and mixing, I find sober is best. Overall I will say I have experienced way more "sounds awesome when Im stoned, sounds terrible the next day" than anything else.
Many people have said: write stoned, mix sober.
Final thought for this post is I actually like a 3 beer buzz the best for writing a new tune. Basically because it turns of my internal critic saying "dont go with that weird decision, go with the safe one"
PS: rocking a bag of Blueberry smoke this month : )

I think if you have a good foundation for a song than getting high (or drunk in my case) can help you power through arrangement and whatnot. Helps get a little more experimental with noise/fx also.
But trying to start a track from scratch while fucked is never a good idea. Ive done that same thing where id spend hours making a bass/lead/kick/snare only to realize the next day that they sound just shit. And i was too messed up to even learn anything in the process.

Yeah, that is the thing - as you are learning, you need what you learn to actually make it into your fucking memory, to later be drawn upon. Big problem with weed.

Not entirely the answers I was expecting, but still on topic nonetheless.
I did say I was going to do it with no serious outcome, just to be clear.

Imo it would be best to do the sound design and choose all the drums and shit sober then arrange and make melodys etc while stoned. Although i can only be either stoned 24/7 or never so this doesnt work for me lol

Dude that is not entirely true. That is true if you don't have your fundamentals down cold.
If you can keep up with your stoned self, really amazing AMAZING things can happen. But it can be very hard to keep up. And the wave will just pass you up, leaving you on the reef.

buzzed mix downs are the best for imo. tend to care less about how surgical things are and just go for the vibe.
