Coding Ninjas

Post by Jhonny2x4 » Thu Mar 06, 2014 8:02 am

I am taking my final tomorrow in Programming III (C++ Focused) and have ended on linked lists, stl library, stacks, and binary trees. This shit is really cool. I look at other codes such as Java, Python, and Squirrel and have managed to reverse engineer some of the basic code, even though I have little to '0' knowledge of the other languages syntax.

Anyone here big on coding? After my next semester we will be learning assembly. By then I hope to have enough confidence to start my first emulator project (something small to start like an Atari or something...).

Riddles is the man to talk to on here :Q:

(Personally, I'd recommend Python out of the ones you've mentioned)

I hear Agent is really into coding.

Hit me up when you get better, I have designs for a playable vst drum sampler.

It's also a nightmare. One of my last tech jobs was setting up an intranet for a valley solar startup, in one week - WITH EXTENSIVE CUSTOMIZATION.

Billed 110 hours for that week.

That Saturday or Sunday was finishing up, but had to wait by a door to hold it open for Sergey Brin who was checking out the company.

Did you slam it into his face and yell "DON'T BE EVIL, CUNT!" before running off into the night?

*midday.

Is this like that deadly habit twin thread? The things I should have done to Sergey? He was mentioned by first name, btw, like fucking prince or Madonna. Ceo (who I'd not been introduced to at the time, and to whom I also let a few choice words slip about the crazy ceo who wanted a sharepoint intranet up in a week) was like the alarm is on, can you just hold this door open for Sergey. And I was like, like, the Sergey? (WHY DID I LEAVE MY ETHER AT HOME????)

What happened with that anyway...did DH actually have a long lost twin, or was it an elaborate hoax to harvest his organs?

I think it wasn't his twin after all, but he was still working with the adoption agency to find the guy.

yeah i do a fair bit of programming. working as a software dev atm. Java, python etc are nice and easy to pick up once you know C++. C and C++ make everything much easier imo. Assembly is a ballache to pick up but not too bad once you get your head around it.

I'm starting a project with a friend, gonna start by making a simple game engine and see what we can do with it. Graphics is pretty fun using open GL, and parallel programming is pretty badass.

I used to train C.

The stuff I'm seeing about in work, software house, is a lot of python, like most SW is written in C++ but a lot of tools utilities and backend stuff is python

Nope wasn't my twin. Found my mom and have been talking to her almost daily. Have a younger half sister who was also put up for adoption that may be in the immediate area near me who is 29, also have a 19 year old half brother who is in Wyoming for school atm.

Far as coding Comp Sci is my major (basically just need to get that piece of paper). Currently taking CSC101 this semester which is Java (piece of cake just have to learn the syntax and some of the intricacies basically), and taking Advanced Java over the summer semester.

You might want to look into the free Harvard CS50X https://www.edx.org/course/harvardx/har ... puter-1022
There is also a bunch of other courses https://www.edx.org/course-list/allscho ... allcourses

I've been coding since I was 12 and originally cut my teeth on Z80 ASM and moved into C, C++, SDL, and OpenGL. Messing about with the Android SDK and NDK atm too.
Best bet is if you're interested snag the pocket reference manuals and any API/library info you can get and just get to it, but I've always been a self learner if interested in a subject.

for real tho, i wish i was better at it.

it's the only truly 'new' thing ive had to learn since school and i jut cant get my head round it. been doing like hour or two a day most days and working with friends but it just doesn't sink in unless i have a book or tutorial open next to me.

makes me worry about how much i get fucked  my ability to absorb new information is so poor ffs

i got bare to do by the 27th which seems a while away but i cant even get past the first exercise lol

Awesome to see there are some ninjas here who are familiar with coding. Even if some hate it (I feel ya Agent and Waffle. Definitely a love/hate relationship).

I'm currently in Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures for my first class and Database Systems in my second class. The algorithms class is kicking my ass. I think it's mostly because I have a really shitty professor and also because of my assigned team of slackers (I'm pretty much pulling the weight). Still, this class is a bitch. The best way i can describe the curriculum of the class is through a Street Fighter analogy:

"Now that you understand how to perform and execute hadouken's, uppercuts, and small chain-combos, we are going to teach you multiple play-styles for different situations. They all use the techniques you learned, and can all perform the same outcome, but this way you can mix your game up if you come across an opponent who is slowing you down and whooping your ass." (I know, I'm a nerd.)

BIG O NOTATION CAN SCREW ITSELF. I am so damn confused and can't for the life of me understand how to apply it towards an algorithm. I understand that it determines how long an algorithm will take to reach completion through a series of steps, but I can't figure out when something is, let's say, linear, and the other may be exponential. Really screws with your head.

Were you under a project manager or was this more of a solo job?

Python looks really cool, and I am interested in learning it, but I think I already have enough to chew on at the moment.

I am striving for my BS in CIS; My CCNA, while trying to acquire the funds for 3 routers and 3 switches; My A+; complete my Critical Thinking and Arguing book; learn Unix; Learn BackTrack/Kali Linux; Read up on the structure of the Windows 7 registry in order to develop a sound understanding of how to make it into my sandbox; and a bunch of other crap that is just for fun. On top of that I need to figure out the tricks of investing so I can retire peacefully.
