Read about 17 pages of this. Pretty good so far even if it is a bit unpolished at the sentence level, a lot of good ideas. I see a lot of people with good music, but not gaining much attention doing exactly what this guide recommends you not do.

See the part about David Bowie Elvis Costello. Both artists have done all kinds of thigns without really ever losing "that something" that fans love.

Or just invent another brand. I think a lot of people into independtly released electronic music are willing to give artist with a wide taste some breathing room. The only fans you are going to loose are the flavor the moment types, whose interest you were bound to loose anyway.

HIs book - 'everything you want' is a great read.

Awesome to think what he achieved (CDbaby.com) and pretty much gave it all away

I love the way people think that "good music" goes unnoticed. Most of the stuff I hear just isn't good enough to be commercially viable, which is the real reason as to why it gets no attention.

Just face it, lots of people would love to do this for a living, but there just isn't enough room for everyone. Focus on making better music, that's the real secret.

^ I'd love to agree with you but it's just simply not true, in general. Very few exceptions.
