haha no worries man, yeah i do chemistry. I get what they mean it just pisses me off, ecstasy is just slang for mdma which is short for it's proper name, they are exactly the same. It's like saying cannabis is the main ingredient of weed.

Ecstasy can use chemical analogues, or completely different ones, for similar effects though. However, the article is misleading by saying it's a 'component' when in fact it's a whole substance in its own right.

What? Ecstasy is mdma and nothing else, it may be cut with other things but that doesn't mean the adulterants are ecstasy, also 'ecstasy' is not synonymous with an 'ecstasy pill', it refers to the compound. Yeah often there are MDA or other analogues in a pill but just because they are sold as ecstasy doesn't mean they are. That's like saying novacaine is cocaine.

MDMA is not the same as Ecstasy. Substances sold on the street under the name Ecstasy do often contain MDMA, but frequently also contain harmful adulterants. In laboratory studies, pure MDMA—but not Ecstasy—has been proven sufficiently safe for human consumption when taken a limited number of times in moderate doses.

It is synonymous to you, but not others. I am merely reiterating the standard definition now used by organisations involved in research using the compound, and the definition I am referring to has been widespread ever since people became aware of what's actually in pills as far as I'm aware. I don't know where you're from, but everyone in Leeds and everyone else I've met in the UK that actually does it either just says 'pills' for unrecognisable substances or '(pure)MD/MDMA'. Actually, people refer to the effect of the pills often if there is no specifically recognisable drug present ('speedy pills', 'trippy pills').

As I said, ecstasy refers to the general effect of certain chemicals, but MDMA is distinct in several ways enough to explicitly refer to it specifically (as in this article). I have already said the article is misleading anyway...

Don't worry about it anyway, just carry on calling it what you want and no-one's going to give a shit really
