Interesting read if you can look past the comments re pirating. Is newsletter based for more updates.

I didnt read all the articles, but from what I read I find these tips cant be easily applied to England. Have you seen the size of most bedrooms in the uk in a semi detached house. Good look trying to fit a band in a room. Plus in America they have massive houses and basements ect.

I wish I was one of those Americans :? But that's definitely an interesting article.

Also feel it glosses over the fact that he assumes that you have $5k to start with, and a lifestyle that would allow you to do this and nothing else with no income during the early stages.

@Rockonin, etc. - Um, America is not just full of giant ass houses with basements and spares that anyone can take over: it depends on where you are. Out in some of the boondocks and suburbs - yes, although it's debatable as to why people would want to live there in a lot of cases (like the blogger's hometown - Athens, Alabama - which is currently being shit on by massively bad weather).

In major cities worth two fucks this is as much of a problem as the UK, and we don't have free medical & dental so anyone trying to make a career out of this has to cover that out-of-pocket.

Anyway...

the tone of these articles is a little too much at times, but he's a cocky young dude so whatever. The piracy thing... aside from not saying anything at all he touches on it suprisingly well.

To be honest, it's pretty sound advice to me. Maybe not completely thorough, but a decent set of guidelines

Yeah, this guy's delivery is pretty spot on. Only quibble I have is (as I mentioned above) he's assuming that you have a revenue stream/way of supporting yourself whilst you put together your $5k studio and learn how to use it without having to work etc.

Good blog though, big fan :Q:

Yeah he should be more explicit about having an alternative income (which he does touch on with this newest post about his assistant). I think he just assumes it's a given, beyond the scope of the blog ("What's a good 2nd job for an aspiring producer?" - "ANY")

He also mentions his first studio being in his parents basement, so presumably they'd be content with him quitting his job, rinsing a load of cash then sitting around doing nothing for a fortnight whilst he learns how to use it.

Go self employed, get working tax credits, live off noodles and never turn your heating on.

The best bit of advice is never work for free (I only work for free if it's for charity).
